  • 🎈 UK long-term Treasury yields hit a 25-year high, adding further pressure on the Chancellor as ballooning debt becomes ever more expensive to service, challenging fiscal sustainability. ✂️ The Bank of England is likely to cut rates next month with underlying economic weakness weighing on growth and increasing stagflation risks, with one further cut now priced this year. 🗽 US yields are also trading at recent highs as Trump’s policies are likely to prove inflationary, meaning the Fed will not need to cut rates significantly. 📈 The US economy is expected to continue outperforming, with the central bank currently forecast to cut rates by up to 0.50% in the latter part of the year. 💶 The European Central Bank is set to be the most aggressive on rate cuts with over 1% of further easing priced in, on the structural economic challenges and political uncertainty. 👨🏭 Today’s focus is very much on the US payrolls data, while next week we get UK and US inflation. 💲 GBP/USD dropped towards 1.2250, its lowest level in over a year following aggressive rhetoric from Trump and UK bond market turmoil, with GBP/EUR at a 2-month low towards 1.1900. • 🏦 The Bank of England kept policy on hold with a 6-3 vote (3 for a cut), with further easing expected through 2025 down to a terminal rate of 4.25%. 📊 Headline UK inflation edged up to 2.6%, further highlighting the challenge facing the central bank as it balances persistent price pressures against a stagnating economy. 👩💼 The jobs market remains relatively robust, with wages growing at a faster than expected 5.2%. ✂️ The Fed did cut rates by 0.25%, with forecasters expecting further cuts over the coming year taking rates to 4%, but uncertainty is high ahead of Trump’s presidency. 💶 The European Central Bank is set to be the most aggressive on rate cuts with the deposit rate expected to drop to 1.75% on the structural economic challenges and political uncertainty. 🫗 Market liquidity has dropped significantly with little risk appetite as we approach year-end. 💷 GBP/USD is testing the 6-month lows of 1.2500, with GBP/EUR trading 1.2000 – 1.2200 range. • 👩💼 Critical UK data in focus next week including inflation and jobs, with the market still forecasting rates will be cut to 4% by mid-2025, though no change is expected at next week’s meeting.   🗽 The Fed is likely to cut rates by 0.25% next week and continue easing through 2025 down to a terminal rate of 3.75%. Headline annual inflation came in as expected at 2.7%. 📉 The European Central Bank cut rates this week with further aggressive easing expected in the months ahead, with the key deposit rate forecast to drop below 2% by mid-2025. 💶 The EU’s serious structural challenges, rate differentials, and political uncertainty are all weighing on the euro, which has dropped to its weakest levels against sterling since Brexit. 🌍 Geopolitical tensions continue to drive investor sentiment given the hugely uncertain outlook. 📊 Market liquidity is starting to drop as we approach year-end, further increasing price volatility. 💸 GBP/USD has recovered strongly from the 1.2500 lows, while GBP/EUR has hit multi-year highs around 1.2150 this week on sterling’s favourable fundamentals.
