Arkbound Foundation is hosting Value Beyond Money - A presentation challenging our Economic System. Make sure to attend it on November 25.

We are thrilled to announce Callum Beattie, Edinburgh born singer, will be playing at INSP's "Changing the Narrative" charity event on 28 November at the Clayton Hotel. He has been releasing music since 2017. His second album, VANDALS, reached number one on the iTunes chart. Beattie recently won the "Forth Best Artist Award" at the Forth Awards in Edinburgh on 14 November. He has been a supporter of multiple charities, including a Highland mental health charity called Mikeysline, where he is an ambassador. Our event will be bringing together a number of social enterprises, including the One to One Development Trust, Arkbound Foundation, Slanj Kilts, and The Blankfaces. Alongside Callum Beattie's performance, there will be an exhibition, film screening, virtual reality experience, and readings from Glasgow-based authors Shane Johnstone and John McGlade. Brian Tokar is not only a faculty member and board member of the Institute for Social Ecology (ISE), but also a renowned author, activist, and educator. For 15 years, he taught Environmental Studies at the University of Vermont, and has taught classes at the ISE on social ecology and social movements since the late 90s. Since 1987, Brian has been a leading voice in the fight for climate and environmental solutions. His most recent book, Climate Justice and Community Renewal: Resistance and Grassroots Solutions (Routledge, 2020), has been called as “invaluable” and praised for its “valuable lessons drawn from a global perspective.” With his decades of experience as both an academic and a climate activist, Brian brings unparalleled expertise and insight to our project. In the second chapter, we’ll dive into powerful testimonies from diverse Kenyan communities, shared by renowned anti-colonial environmental consultant Violet Matiru. Violet exposes the exploitation of Kenya’s land under the guise of 'conservation' and 'carbon offsetting'—a strategy driven by neocolonial powers in the Global North (mainly Europe and the US). These so-called 'solutions' are not about protecting the environment; they’re about dispossessing native peoples and benefiting Western corporations at the expense of local communities and wildlife. Drawing on her vast experience with Kenyan organizations like the Ministry of Agriculture & Livestock and the Kenya Wildlife Service, as well as her work as an independent environmental consultant, Violet’s voice is critical to understanding the real impact of these harmful practices. She currently works with the Millennium Community Development Initiatives (MCDI), where she’s spent over 17 years advocating for sustainable, people-centered solutions. Violet’s chapter in this book will show why solutions imposed from the Global North are not only failing, but actually exacerbating the crisis—fueling ecological destruction and accelerating societal collapse.
