We are proud to sponsor the The ASA Landscape Architects Prize for Best Final Dissertation at the School of Architecture and Landscape University of Sheffield. This year, the board were agreed that three student dissertations were excellent and should, therefore, share the prize. Our congratulations go to: 🏆Alisa Vlasova: Tools for involving children in participatory landscape planning and co-design processes aimed at fostering nature-connectedness with meaningful outcomes for planning policy. 🏆Danny Codd: How can experimental mapping explore identity of place in Hull's city centre through generational intersubjectivity and idiosyncrasies. 🏆Wenxuan Jia: Brownfield as Landscape: The potential for plants on brownfield sites to improve green infrastructure. December feels like the perfect time to reflect on some of the projects we've had the honour of working on over the last few years. We worked with Abingdon School on two incredible landscape projects, the first was a landscape design supporting two new boarding houses at the school - Austin House and Crescent House. Retaining mature vegetation and trees and adding hedges, shrubs, climbers, and perennials for year-round muted colour, complementing the buildings and softening boundaries. The second project supported a new Pavilion between the theatre and the school and provided the perfect spot in the heart of the school for catering and hospitality. We created raised beds and planters to integrate outdoor seating areas and connect the landscape to the pavilion, a tree-lined approach created a sense of threshold to the entrance.
