Our latest research highlights how fleets could be saving money - and preventing carbon emissions - by raising driver awareness about unnecessary engine idling. Drive-through fast food restaurants are a major hotspot, with drivers often leaving the engine running whilst stationary in the car park 🍔🍟🥤
🚚 Van driver idling could be costing hundreds of pounds a year, Lightfoot says 🚚 Van drivers who stop for lunch during their working day and leave their engines running could be racking up hundreds of pounds a year in unnecessary fuel costs, according to Lightfoot. It said a diesel van left running for an hour would use about £1.25 (excluding VAT) worth of fuel, and create around 2.7kg of CO2 emissions. Lightfoot managing director Paul Hollick said: “If a driver sits in their cab eating a Big Mac meal, and leaves the van idling while they do it, the cost of that lunch goes up from £7.10 to £8.35 with the extra fuel used. In support of Road Safety Week 2024, and the great work that Brake, the road safety charity does to make the UK's roads safer and greener for everyone, we've launched a new competition to celebrate the Lightfoot community's commitment to careful and considerate driving. Every day this week, we'll be giving away a bonus £100 prize to a Lightfoot driver who has reached the Elite Driver target - our standard for safer, smoother driving. On average, Elite Drivers perform 84% fewer dangerous manoeuvres, reduce time spent speeding by 46%, and cut fleet collision rates by 40%.
