Rolling Up 2024…One Slice at a Time 🍰 I thought I’d treat myself to a slice of Yule Log (not a Christmas cake fan—sorry, it’s the marzipan!) and take a moment to reflect on an incredible year at The AQR. What a year it’s been! We recently asked our board members to sum up their thoughts on 2024, and here’s what we heard: 'energising', 'stimulating', 'community-focused', 'evolving', 'momentum'. Wonderful words! For me, it feels like we’ve gained clarity and a sharper focus on what we need to deliver to our membership: pushing boundaries, challenging convention, offering training, and providing thought leadership. Most importantly, we’re continuing to build a close-knit community where everyone feels they belong. 2024 Highlights There have been many, but connecting with our members, new and long-standing, has been a true privilege. The world of insight has faced challenges this year, and qualitative research is no exception. That’s why we’ve worked hard to ensure The AQR remains inspiring, supportive, and forward-looking, helping our sector thrive. Some standout moments include: ✨ Our first conference in several years with the unforgettable theme ‘Humanity Fights Back’. Inspiring speakers and thought-provoking discussions made it truly memorable. ✨ The relaunch of our magazine, Curious—a quarterly publication diving deep into qualitative research. Haven’t read it yet? Let us know below and we’ll share a copy! ✨ Qualversations, the world’s only qual podcast (to our knowledge!). If you haven’t tuned in yet, you’re missing out—link below! ✨ High-quality courses and events, covering topics such as Advanced Moderation Skills, Writing for Research, and thought-provoking sessions on ED&I and AI. ✨ Celebrating excellence: • The AQR Parker Prize for Emerging Talent and The AQR Qualitative Excellence Award saw outstanding entries and inspiring winners Rhiannon Pratt Sarah Jenkins and Evelyn Robertson. Thank you to everyone who participated! • The launch of The AQR Wendy Gordons Pioneers Award 2025. This award, open to anyone who embodies a pioneering spirit, is generously sponsored by Acacia Avenue. I’m excited about our launch event ‘Pioneer This! Making a Pioneer Out of Us All’ on 27th Feb 2025—tickets on sale soon 👀 Gratitude ❤️ A huge thank you to AQR board members Judy Taylor Debbie Newbould Simon Shaw Peter Totman Chloe Fowler Ella Fryer-Smith Dr Mark Thorpe Sandy Franklin Rachael Penny Oliver Sweet Natasha Ward Martha Llobet Caroline Noon FMRS Simon Patterson (CPsychol, FMRS). Your energy and dedication are the secret ingredient to our success. And to AQR Sparks for such a fab rebrand. To our fellow associations — AURA Insight , ICG, Market Research Society (MRS), Quirk's Media, QRCA ESOMAR (to name a few)—it’s been a pleasure collaborating. And, of course, to our members: your continued support is the beating heart of The AQR. Here’s to a bright and successful 2025. Wishing you a wonderful, cake-filled Christmas! 🎁✨
