After receiving their residence permit, refugees are granted just 28 days to open a bank account, seek employment or benefits, and find alternative accommodation. Many refugees in the UK fall homeless at this critical hurdle. According to government data, over 5,000 refugee households were classed as homeless between October and December 2023.   Not-for-profits supporting refugees and the homeless play a crucial role in providing essential support to those facing or experiencing rough sleeping. However, language barriers can often hinder their efforts to reach out to and effectively assist these vulnerable individuals.   At AST, we believe that language should never be an obstacle to finding safe and affordable housing.
