Two of our Plant Department apprentices, Subhaan and Will, recently visited BAUER Maschinen GmbH in Germany to continue their learning and development. Spending a week at the training centre, they attended a hands-on course which focused on electrical and hydraulic knowledge of Bauer machines. We take pride in ensuring our talented workforce receive the right training for their role, which in turn enables our business to continually deliver for our customers. #NationalApprenticeshipWeek #BuildOnUs Find out more about our apprenticeships - https://lnkd.in/dQFF2CNC

Cut-off walls are an efficient solution for controlling groundwater flow and any contaminants that it may contain. Our team offers a range of techniques to meet the specific needs of your project. Depending on the chosen technique, advantages of cut-off walls include: ✅ Quick installation with minimal handling operations or removal of spoil ✅ Achieves very low permeabilities ✅ Prevents gas migration and enables in-situ groundwater treatment ✅ Capability to install walls at significant depths, meeting complex project demands Ready to find out more? Bachy Soletanche recently completed a geotechnical and civil engineering works contract for Canary Wharf Group's Eden Dock bridge project. Our works included the installation of piled foundations and bridge piers for a new 60m long pedestrian bridge connecting the North and South sides of the Eden Dock. Our scope of works included: • UXO magnetometer surveys in the dock to allow the jack up barge legs to safely penetrate into the dockbed • Removal and storage of a pedestrian footbridge weighing 46t using an innovative marine lifting method from below to avoid the use of craneage • Mobilisation of three barges for the piling rig, service crane and logistics, plus support pontoons from land into the dock for the works • Installation of two 2.1m diameter, 29m deep rotary bored marine piles under polymer support fluid • Construction of the bridge piers on top of each pile, featuring a complex post-tensioning system to connect the piles to the bridge, including the use of architectural finished casings Due to the complexity of this project, a high level of planning and coordination was required between all parties. Some of the key challenges were: • Assembling the barges and piling setup. A historic ‘Banana Wall’ around the dock restricted loading close to the edge. As a result, all plant had to be lifted onto the barges, including our BG40 piling rig using a 1000t mobile crane. •The proximity of the piles to the Jubilee Line, with the closest pile being 4.1m away. Drilling in proximity to the tunnels required 24/7 working to ensure compliance with TfL procedures and monitoring of pile bore verticality throughout drilling using Koden and PRAD systems. • Complex multi-phase civils work with the installation of the post-tensioning cages connected to the piles and cast into the piers. This required Bachy Soletanche to draw on our experience gained from large projects like HS2 and Thames Tideway, where we are involved complex civil engineering work as well as specialist geotechnics. A special thanks to our supply chain partners for supporting us throughout this project, and for bringing their specialist expertise to support our team. #FlashbackFriday In 2009, Bachy Soletanche designed and constructed the temporary hard/firm secant pile retaining wall to facilitate the remodelling of the existing dock entrance at Rosyth Dock Yard in Fife, Scotland. The 1300mm diameter secant wall piles were expected to terminate in the top of the Dolerite. The excavation within the wall was to extend down to the top of rock at an approximate depth of 26.5m. The solution, developed by Bachy Soletanche and BAM Nuttall, involved the installation of steel dowels through the bases of the hard piles to provide restraint at the toe of the wall. The secant wall, dowels and ground anchors were designed by Bachy Soletanche to provide a single composite solution. The project was a good example of Bachy Soletanche and BAM Nuttall’s ability to coordinate the various ongoing activities of a major project via efficient planning, good teamwork and site management.
