Floating Wind Pipeline - Bamla is now helping investors with technical feasibility questions about future projects, and giving support on project risk. The growth of floating wind projects globally has been substantial, reflecting a significant trend in renewable energy development. Over the past year, the global pipeline for floating offshore wind projects increased by 32%, from 185 GW to 244 GW in capacity, marking a notable expansion in this sector. The number of projects has also risen from 230 to 285, with a total of 227 MW currently operational across 14 projects in seven countries (Offshore Wind) (Global Wind Energy Council). Europe continues to lead in the development of floating wind projects, with nearly two-thirds of the announced capacity located there. Key countries include Norway, with the largest floating offshore wind project, Hywind Tampen, and the UK, which aims for floating wind to account for more than half of its offshore wind generation by 2050. Outside Europe, significant developments are taking place off the coasts of the USA, Australia, and South Korea (Offshore Wind). The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) highlights the critical role of floating offshore wind in achieving long-term global decarbonization goals. As technology matures, countries like Ireland, Italy, Morocco, the Philippines, and the USA are identified as having significant potential to accelerate the growth of floating offshore wind. The GWEC emphasizes the need for political leadership to create supportive policies that enable rapid deployment and cost reduction of these projects (Global Wind Energy Council). Floating Wind innovating concept…. An innovative turbine design that could significantly reduce the cost of offshore wind is set to move toward the testing phase in Norway. The 19-m (62-ft), 30-kW, contra-rotating vertical-axis turbine is a prototype of a design that could have potential to scale to unprecedented size and power. Most wind turbines look like a propeller on a stick – once you take the concept out into the deep ocean, where the vast majority of the world's best wind power resources are, and scale it up, it's a design that becomes more and more challenging. All the heavy components are at the top, so it's difficult and expensive to build and maintain a floating version that doesn't want to tip over in the wind.
