A collective response to local needs - because together our giving makes a bigger difference.

About us

Bath Women’s Fund is a new approach to philanthropy in Bath and the surrounding area, which launched in 2018. Women who live or work in and around Bath are invited to join this thriving giving circle and collaborate with others interested in collective giving. Giving Circles operate around the world. They work by pooling members' resources and giving to good causes. Using this approach for the Bath Women’s Fund will mean that members : • connect more directly with local charities; • learn about local issues; • share the joy of giving; and • get involved more deeply in philanthropy and how funds are allocated to achieve the greatest impact. Giving Circles are also about having fun and bringing together socially-aware women from a wide range of backgrounds. Bath Women’s Fund is run by a small group of volunteers who work in the charitable and philanthropic sector. We decided to set up Bath Women’s Fund because, as the thousands of women’s giving circles around the world demonstrate, this is an initiative that works particularly well for women who want to come together and get involved in something a bit different. • As 2024 comes to an end, we’d like to wish you all a wonderful Christmas and New Year and thank you for the support you’ve given to women and girls this year…and what a year of philanthropy it has been! We’ve hosted and been involved in many events across the city, some of our favourites include: ‘Women & Girls of Bath’ walks and treasure hunts for International Women’s Day, as well as with BANES WLN – sharing stories of women and girls from the city. Emma and Isobel hosted a webinar about the growing Giving Circle movement – you can find out more about it here: https://shorturl.at/y48YC We were nominated for a Bath Life Awards Civic Award! And we’ve had a variety of potluck picnics at:  – University of Bath School of Management with 1st Impressions and The Women's Work Lab talking about how they support women back into employment; – Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution were we learnt about women in science, literature and art who have lived in or visited the city;  – Henrietta Park summer picnic to celebrate five years of giving with over £100,000 of grants given to fourteen local organisations;  – Bath City Farm where we had a tour of the Farm and learnt about their CRAFTWorks programme providing therapeutic crafting sessions for women, supported by our £4,000 grant this year; – The Roman Baths learning about the fascinating research they are doing into the lives of everyday women living in Aquae Sulis. We had our popular Grant Awards Evening at TCNUK Newark Works where the shortlisted organisations gave presentations and our members voted on who received the main grant – this year it went to Youth Connect South West. And finally, we had a festive celebration at the Discovery Centre at Bath Abbey, where we were honoured to be joined by some amazing women from four of the organisations we have supported over the past five years: Mentoring Plus - Bath & North East Somerset SARSAS (Somerset and Avon Rape and Sexual Abuse Support) Black Families Education Support Group Youth Connect South West Hosted by Bath Women's Fund member Yvonne Bignall, we listened to these women talk about the amazing work their organisation is doing to help women and girls in the area. Alongside these events, we have also featured in The Bath & Wiltshire Parent magazine and you can see us in the latest Bath Life Network Special 2024. And to top off the year, we have chosen our theme for 2025: ‘Improving the health and wellbeing of women and/or girls – especially those most affected by health inequality’ The guidance for the grant programme will be launched in the new year and we will be open to expressions of interest in January, so keep an eye out – https://lnkd.in/d-vVBKh If you are interested in philanthropy and want to find out more about Bath Women’s Fund, then we’d love to chat to you – https://lnkd.in/eTQRTax #FiveYearsOfGiving #BathWomensFund #Philanthropy #GivingCircles #JoinBathWomensFund #Community #GiveLocally

  • “I would like us to reimagine philanthropy as something we can all do - whether we are giving our money or time.” Welcome to Meet our Members!  This month, we’d like to introduce you to Emma. Emma Beeston is a Philanthropy Advisor and co-founder of Bath Women’s Fund. Emma’s mission is to develop philanthropy advice as a recognised and valued profession. She believes that access to timely philanthropic advice would help unlock the private money that charities and community groups so desperately need and deserve. She would also like us to reimagine philanthropy as something we can all do, whether we are giving our money or time. Emma helped set up the Bath Women’s Fund Giving Circle and is extremely proud that they have reached their £100,000 milestone, but what she hadn’t predicted was how many lovely and interesting women she has met through being part of this organisation. • Bath Women’s Fund is a great community to be a part of – the events are fascinating and the network of interesting women involved is a huge draw, but what is at the core of the organisation is philanthropy and getting involved in the grant making process. This post shows the different stages of this process throughout the year and how members get involved in grant making at Bath Women’s Fund. Our members can:  – Volunteer to be part of a group that helps to review applications  – Volunteer to be a mentor to applicants  – Vote on the theme for the year – Learn about local organisations and issues affecting women and girls – Vote to decide who gets the main grant at the end of the year “Being a member of Bath Women’s Fund enables you to contribute and make a bigger impact.” “I really liked the idea of collaboration and women coming together – year on year we see how the pots of money help local organisations” If you like to get involved with Bath Women’s Fund and find out more about philanthropy, visit our website or come along to one of our events.  https://lnkd.in/eTQRTax #FiveYearsOfGiving #BathWomensFund #Philanthropy #GivingCircles #JoinBathWomensFund #Community

  • We’ve told you about what Giving Circles are and how they work over the past few weeks, but what are the key reasons that people join them? One of the reasons women join our Giving Circle is to get involved in philanthropy. Bath Women’s Fund has a Grants Groups and an Events Group and interested members can volunteer to join either group. Members are also encouraged to participate, as much or as little as they wish, throughout the grant making process. The grant-making process involves: – members vote to select the grant-making theme each year – members learn about issues affecting women and girls focused on each year’s theme – members learn about the organisations applying for support – members vote to decide which organisation receives the main grant – members can also volunteer to: review applications (expressions of interest and full applications) provide mentoring support to applicants for the Grants Award Evening Members are currently voting to choose the 2025 grant-making theme, and the result will be announced at our event in December. The 2025 grant-making programme will then open to new expressions of interest in January. Bath Women’s Fund members are actively involved with a great range of local organisations – as Trustees, employees, volunteers, or using services – which brings a great depth of knowledge, lived experience and understanding to events and grant making. You can read about all the organisations we’ve supported over our first five years of giving at: https://lnkd.in/d-vVBKh And if you’d like to find out more about Bath Women’s Fund, then please come along to our event at the Abbey Learning Centre on 9th December: https://lnkd.in/ee8CBVVt   #FiveYearsOfGiving #BathWomensFund #Philanthropy #GivingCircles #JoinBathWomensFund #Community

  • “I wanted to be part of something collaborative and ambitious and determined to make a difference.” Welcome to Meet our Members!  This month, we’d like to introduce you to Kate. Kate Abbey is a Festival Director and set up the social enterprise organisation, Bath Arts Collective, that develops and delivers a vibrant and varied arts and culture programme across Bath and North East Somerset and the organisation also has their own event – Curious Minds Festival. Passionate about making culture and cultural events accessible, diverse and inclusive, Kate wants to support projects that create opportunities for young people and women who have taken career breaks, to thrive in this city. Kate joined Bath Women’s Fund as there are so many brilliant women across Bath and North East Somerset and she wanted to find out about new projects and initiatives and to learn how we might all collaborate together. You can read more about Kate here… https://lnkd.in/eChH38nA Our members, along with local news, also feature in our newsletter – sign up here if you’d like regular updates: https://lnkd.in/eKjFECDg #FiveYearsOfGiving #BathWomensFund #Philanthropy #GivingCircles #JoinBathWomensFund

  • Bath Women’s Fund is a Giving Circle and over the past five years we have collectively given to local organisations that support women and girls. But how do Giving Circles work? Each month our members donate £25 (or £20 plus Gift Aid) or more if they wish. These donations are pooled and held securely, then at the end of the year 100% of the funds are awarded in grants to local groups. Our members decide how the pooled funds are allocated to make the biggest impact at an awards evening. Grant payments are then made directly to the selected organisations. Since our launch in October 2019, we are proud to have given £100,000 to 14 local organisations. People join a giving circle because they want to make a difference, connect with others, learn and have fun, but it is also an opportunity to get involved with philanthropy and the grant making process. If you are interested in finding out more about Giving Circles, philanthropy and Bath Women’s Fund, visit our website or come along to one of our events. https://lnkd.in/eTQRTax #FiveYearsOfGiving #BathWomensFund #Philanthropy #GivingCircles #JoinBathWomensFund #Community
