If you’d like to support Yuup’s work and enjoy a spectacular family experience just before Christmas, check out Yuup’s Christmas Carol Drone Light Show at the Seat Unique Stadium at Gloucestershire Cricket on the 19th, 20th and 21st of December. It sees 600 drones take to the sky for a 45-minute aerial show telling the classic story ‘A Christmas Carol’, narrated by actor and comedian Matt Lucas and set to an original soundtrack. Like Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, Yuup is a BBRC investee, and is a platform for local experiences and things to do, delivering positive impact by providing income-generating opportunities for experience hosts and bringing communities together through shared activities. Starting in Bristol in 2021 with cookery classes, drumming workshops and graffiti tours (to name just a few), Yuup has grown to offer 500+ unique experiences in five cities across the UK, with experiences now including stadium-scale shows. These much larger experiences are important in scaling Yuup’s impact by introducing thousands of new users to the platform. Find out more at https://lnkd.in/ebZxMvQx and if you use the promo code “BBRC” at checkout, you’ll get 15% off your drone show tickets.

Thank you to everyone who attended our event last night ‘Taking Place Based Impact Investment To The Next Level’. A huge thank you to our keynote speakers, Sarah Gordon and Anna Shiel, and our panellists Mehjabeen Patrick, Tony Dyer, Stephen Peacock, Sado Jirde and Mark Pepper for a fascinating discussion, plus the impromptu pitch from one of City Funds' investees, Dominic Mills of Yuup. We're very grateful to Osborne Clarke for providing us with such a fantastic venue, facilities and food. For anyone unable to attend, we'll be sharing a recording of the event in the next week or so. In the meantime some key takeaways from the event are: - Bringing different parties together and understanding their different needs is the foundation for success in place-based investment, and partnerships that are based on understanding, collaboration and a shared purpose are more likely to be successful. - Facilitating a bridge between investment expertise and local knowledge is where the magic happens, and these types of investments cannot succeed without both. - There are many people, from different backgrounds and across varying roles, that care about the success of the South West and want to see it thrive. Looking at people as an asset rather than an obstacle can help solve shared problems. - There is a huge demand for investment in the South West, and there is opportunity and scope to scale impact investment in the region. And finally, if you weren't in the room, we announced that we will now be known simply as BBRC, to reflect that our work in impact investment spans across the South West.

This Thursday, BBRC will host a major business event exploring the potential of place-based impact investment in the region.   The event brings together leading names to set out how this growing model of investment can supercharge growth in cities and regions.   Speakers include Sarah Gordon, founding chief executive of the Impact Investing InstituteAnna Shiel CIO of Better Society Capital and Stephen Peacock, chief executive of the West of England Combined Authority.   The event comes just a few weeks after the announcement of the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority’s £100m Net Zero fund, known as the Green Growth West Impact Fund, on which BBRC is currently undertaking investment readiness work. Stephen Peacock, chief executive of the combined authority, and Ed Rowberry, chief executive of BBRC, will talk at the event about the plans for this fund and what the opportunities are for local organisations and investors.   Also part of the event, a panel discussion on City Funds will see beneficiaries share their stories about the difference the investment has made to them, including Mark Pepper, director at Ambition Lawrence Weston who delivered the 4.2MW wind turbine in Lawrence Weston with investment from City Funds, and Sado Jirde, director of Black South West Network, who has been working with BBRC on making social investment more accessible to communities via the Bristol Local Access Programme.   The event takes place at Osborne Clarke's offices in the Halo building in Bristol on Thursday 21 Nov at 5:30pm, and the link to register is in the comments.

This morning, our chief executive Ed Rowberry joined a panel of business leaders for the Insider Media Bristol and South Gloucestershire breakfast. The discussion focused on the future of the region and where the main opportunities and challenges lie around driving growth for businesses across multiple sectors. Attracting investment, securing top talent and telling success stories emerged as key issues, and there were plenty of positives about the future of the economy, growing businesses and ways to collaborate. #InsiderOppBreakfastBristol
