Proud to be part of Torbay Council’s first project to be delivered by the Government’s Town Deal. The project priorities pedestrians featuring a substantial new south-facing public space overlooking the inner harbour, encouraging the local community and visitors to gather and enjoy this unique harbourside experience. Kay Elliott Architects Urban Design, collaborated with Jonathan Tricker, Matthew McFeat & Sam Goss of PJA and Rob Beswick, Emma Santamaria, Helen Kirk and Guto Jones of BD landscape architects to deliver the shared vision for Torbay Council. The restored Grade II listed Mallock Clock Tower, now accessible up close for the first time in decades, stands illuminated and chiming as a focal point of the new space. Buses and traffic that previously dominated the area, have been carefully considered, freeing up The Strand for pedestrians and exciting future uses. While finishing touches continue, a programme of cultural events will ensure a vibrant space throughout the year, starting December with the Bay of Lights Illumination Trail https://lnkd.in/eeNZW_2B

Great to be able to sit and enjoy the new amenity & external teaching spaces within the London Dock School for the Mulberry Schools Trust, designed and delivered in collaboration with Architype + Kier Group Located within a stone’s throw of the Tower of London the external spaces for learning outside the classroom, play decks and Games Courts have been designed over six different levels with biodiverse planting beds and living walls enriching the environment for the new students. We are thrilled to announce that our proposal for the rejuvenation of 65 Fleet Street and its public realm have been granted planning permission by the City of London last week! Working alongside Buckley Gray Yeoman and ECE Westworks for Dominus , we are proud to have produced an exciting new mixed development scheme to reimagine the vacant site. 65 Fleet Street will provide high quality, professionally managed student accommodation in close proximity to multiple prominent London universities, benefitting students, local universities, and the area. Students will be able to relax and socialise in a brand new roof terrace catered to their needs, which adds welcomed greening to the area. A communicative and open ground and lower-ground floor will make space for new cultural uses. Active frontages will open onto a publicly-accessible courtyard where planting and social exchange will thrive. The proposals will also improve on and allow the re-opening of historic pub The Tippery, adding even more buzz to this space. We have taken the opportunity to create a relationship between the site and the rest of the exciting and changing area. Wider proposals make the first steps to linking three hubs of social activity – the public realm at 65 Fleet Street, the social spaces at the developing Salisbury Square, and St Brides Foundation – a printmaking archive and educational charity. Another reason why we at Avalon will "remember, remember the 5th of November" is that this year we secured a long overdue consent for our clients to build their dream forever home on a unique site with unrivalled vistas of Bristol and arguably the best private view of Clifton Suspension Bridge.   While it took longer than we had hoped, this reflected the challenges associated with developing in the Green Belt and within a Registered Park and Garden, requiring a robust planning strategy from the outset based on consolidation and betterment to optimise the site's potential in addition to lengthy negotiations with officers debating "openness." That being said, the result, in our view, was well worth the time and effort, and a testament to WOTTON DONOGHUE ARCHITECTS (BRISTOL) LIMITED (WDA) compelling design and BD landscape architects vision.   This project was collaborative team work at its best, made possible by an incredibly patient client who showed faith and confidence in the applicant team including Wotton Donoghue Architects, BD Landscape Architects, Quantock Ecology Limited, Ecological Lighting Solutions ,KB2, QODA Consulting and Pixual Ltd (for the beautiful renders) to get the results.   A thank you also goes out to Design West for the positive input into the design development process early on and to North Somerset Officers for keeping the dialogue open.   #Planning #GreenBelt #RegisteredParkandGarden #Bristol #NorthSomerset 

Our London & Thames Valley business has completed the new Passivhaus school, Mulberry Academy London Dock, and handed it over to London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The new energy efficient 11 – 19 co-educational comprehensive school is situated in the London Dock residential complex and provides 1150 new spaces for local students. It is partly funded by the Department for Education and will be managed by the Mulberry Schools Trust. Designed by Architype to Passivhaus standards, the first-class educational facility is designed to maximise heat and energy conservation and includes bright classrooms with interactive screens and specialist suites for dance, art and science. It also has considerable green space with extensive facilities for sports and leisure that are also available for the local community to use after school hours. Students will benefit from flexible learning spaces, a roof terrace, a games court and external recreational areas. The annual Brick Awards ceremony will take place this evening, hosted by The Brick Development Association (BDA). Forest Road in Walthamstow is shortlisted for the Brick Awards 2024 in the Medium Housing Development category.   Designed for Pocket Living, Forest Road provides 90 affordable one-bedroom homes for local first-time buyers and makes excellent use of an under-utilised site, to provide 100% affordable homes.   Inspired by the curved bay windows of the neighbouring William Morris Gallery, lintels are gently concave to catch soft shadows that animate with changing light. All precast elements are coloured to match the pink/red tones of Floren Vecchio brick. Regents Wharf – hidden within the heart of King’s Cross - is our latest public realm project to complete that fuses industrial heritage + a biophilic landscape-rich workplace for BGO with Hawkins\Brown The landscape at Regents Wharf is split into three distinct courtyards, each of which have their own function and character, whilst tying in to an overall site strategy through the material choices and planting palette. Thorley Gardens - Controlled access ensures a quiet space for relaxation for the users of the building; a green oasis with views out across Regents Canal. Shadbolt Square - A bustling square provides the central approach to office space and retail units at the heart of the site. Bartlett Yard - A narrow space nestled between The Mill and the adjacent site; the introduction of soft landscape softens this space and directs your eye to catch a glimpse of Regents Canal. We are delighted with progress at Sheares Hall, a stunning 350-bed student accommodation scheme in Newcastle-upon-Tyne being delivering in partnership with HG Construction and on behalf of Soilbuild Group Holdings Ltd. Internal works are progressing at pace, with the furniture fitout up to level 4, roof works complete, and façade works on track for completion this Christmas.
