Belmont Community Cinema reposted this
Slightly late with this but I was heartbroken last week to find out that David Lynch had passed away. The impact that his films had on me I think form part of the immense pride I have felt in working in the places I have and still do, trying to accomplish that which we try to accomplish. That inspiring art, whether it is sculpture, painting, music or film, can truly alter how you see the world. Mulholland Drive and Lost Highway are two of my favourite films of all time. Even given the amount of hours I wiled away as I student watching both, I still revisit them regularly and I feel privileged that we were able to screen the former at least a few times during my time at Belmont Community Cinema. It will be one of the first films I ask them to show when they reopen. The gift Lynch gave to me with his cinema is that the best art can completely change your perspectives and boundaries about what life is. He and his work almost stand alone in how they achieved that. The world is sadder without him. His work will endure where he has passed on, as it is for all great artists. RIP.
