The pMDI landscape is shifting! Over recent years, the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol has guided the phasedown of HFAs across all industries. However, as regions introduce their own targets, tightening regulations are driving a faster phaseout, including of the propellants used in pMDIs. Our Head of Drug Product Development, Ross Errington, discusses what this means for the pMDI industry in a recent PMPS article. Bespak Holmes Chapel this year selected the mid-Cheshire group of foodbanks as their festive charity recipient. A festive raffle was hugely popular and enabled us to donate £1068 to the Middlewich & District Foodbank. Employees were also asked to support via donations of festive-themed food items, and donation boxes located across site were rapidly filled with seasonal packaged produce! On 10 December 2024, Jeremy Tidmarsh welcomed volunteers from the Middlewich & District Foodbank to Holmes Chapel to present our “Charity Cheque”. We are overwhelmed with the generosity from our employees and pleased to help spread a little festive cheer to all those locally who are supported by this very worthy charity! #Bespak #GivingBack #CommunitySupport #MiddlewichFoodbank

Sarah Russell, MP for Congleton, recently visited Bespak’s Holmes Chapel site to learn more about our role in the global transition to climate-friendly inhalers. Sarah met with Bespak CEO Chris Hirst and Holmes Chapel Site Director Jeremy Tidmarsh to discuss Bespak’s future investment in the site, and was able to inspect the new manufacturing equipment in detail with Programme Manager Rachel Hirst and Engineering Project Manager Karen McHugh. We shared our achievements so far, expanding our footprint with the addition of a new production facility for pMDIs manufactured using the next-generation “greener” propellant, HFO-1234ze. The new facility enables us to service the increasing demand from global pharmaceutical companies developing more sustainable inhalers. Having completed the construction and equipment installation phase, the project now moves into the next phase of pharmaceutical validation to prepare for commercial production in 2025. “𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗯𝘆 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗹𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲-𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀. We are excited to announce an update to our strategic collaboration with OzUK, further enhancing our partnered early-stage pressurised Metered Dose Inhaler (pMDI) product feasibility and development services. This partnership represents a shared commitment to delivering innovative and sustainable solutions for our customers as they transition their pMDI portfolios to low Global Warming Potential (GWP) propellants HFA-152a & HFO-1234ze. This announcement builds on the recent launch of OzUK’s 𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐗-𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐭 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭, designed to advance the development of low GWP pMDI products using propellant HFA-152a. The facility enables the production of both solution and suspension batches at pilot scale using this new generation propellant. By aligning agile product development and pilot-scale capabilities at OzUK with our GMP clinical-scale capabilities and full-scale production processes at Bespak Holmes Chapel, this collaboration ensures a seamless transition for customers – supporting not just environmental responsibility but also manufacturing excellence.
