COP29 is coming up and every year, we like to take the opportunity to take a step back and reflect on climate change both locally and globally. For too long, most of the Western world has seen climate change as a problem only impacting distant islands and peoples. Now, it is on our doorstep and shaping our lives and businesses in Scotland.  A recent UN report predicts 3.1C warming this century based on current government policies. We are now faced with two competing challenges: adapting to the risks (more risks than opportunities) of climate change, and mitigating further impacts by reducing emissions from fossil fuels and land-use changes. We reflect on how climate change shapes our lives and the organisations we work with, including J. Smart & Co. While preparing Beyond Green 2nd recertification for B Lab UK, there's a question about impact improvement, such as an innovative approach or doing something differently that is replicable or has changed the industry. Sounds like a big ask, huh, especially for a small business. Well, in 2021, we introduced a new interview approach as part of our accessibility and inclusion programme, which Lisa Kaiffer was developing. We heard how many candidates found this useful. So you can guess our surprise when we read on BBC News that John Lewis & Partners are now providing interview questions in advance https://lnkd.in/eQTDpzqQ. It's a shame we cannot claim they got the idea from Beyond Green 🙂 So, in the spirit of sharing and updating our B Corp Impact Assessment, in 2024, we will develop a 30-minute on-line collaborative session with final candidates around Net Zero. Feedback was positive as candidates found this a learning experience too, and our advisors at AAB People were impressed with the process.
