The UK government has announced a £200 million increase in funding for local public health services, aiming to enhance programmes such as smoking cessation, addiction recovery, and children's health initiatives. This investment is part of the government's Plan for Change, focusing on shifting healthcare from treatment to prevention. The public health grant will expand to £3.858 billion, marking a 5.4% cash uplift from the previous year. Minister for Public Health and Prevention, Andrew Gwynne, emphasised that prevention is better than cure, highlighting the importance of early intervention in reducing demand on the NHS and keeping people in work. Services like ours play a crucial role in this vision, providing timely support that helps individuals before their needs escalate, ultimately contributing to healthier communities and a more sustainable healthcare system. This significant investment aims to tackle the root causes of ill health and build stronger, healthier communities across the country. By focusing on prevention, the government seeks to create a more sustainable and fit-for-future NHS.
