This has been an absolute pleasure 💕
What happens when a community parkrun leads to an unexpected visit to a museum? For Black Girls Do Run UK ©, it was an eye-opening experience at Fulham Palace, diving into history and connecting with powerful stories of resistance. When was the last time you had a first time? This time last week I was at the start line for my very first ultra marathon. I had my eye on Race to The Stones 50k for a while before I entered in 2022 for 2023 but running an ultra last year was not to be for me, I had to defer to 2024 due to injury. Race to the king wasnt an event on my radar. I was determined that Race To The Stones was going to be my first ultra, that was until in November I attended Ultra 50:50, the initiative to achieve gender parity and set a new standard to inspire women in November 2023 I listened to the challengers share their whys and all off a sudden I had this burning desire to enter Race to The King too. I wanted to be one of the women on that start line and contribute to the event achieving gender parity. I wasn't sure if it was a good idea to do two ultrad so close together and had a chat with a couple of experienced ultra runners, one who works at Threshold who both advised as long as I just want to finish it's fine. Massive love to the Threshold team who already attract more females athletes than the industry standard for setting out to create more meaningful change on the ultra running scene, doing it and doing it oh so well. You can't be what you can't see and now many can see that more is them and they can indeed complete an ultra. Thresholds stellar efforts have turned running an ultra into something so many thought they couldn't do into something they can do. Another they do which i love is they focus on ALL runners, the ones who come first, last and those in-between. I am proud to be an ambassador for such a forward thinking action not just words company.
