Broadcast Lab returns for its eleventh edition. We're searching for individual musicians, collectives & curators to pitch a project to be streamed on Boiler Room in 2025. This fund looks to platform emergent scenes & overlooked spaces, so we’re after innovative programming concepts that prioritise underrepresented artists, marginalised communities & forward-thinking collaborations. Boiler Room projects are 360° activations; the best proposals will consider presentation & the broadcast format. The winning application will be awarded up to £10,000 to bring the project to life. Boiler Room will provide additional in-kind support and a full release on our channels. Applications are open globally, and close Monday 10th March at 23.59 GMT. Apply → blrrm.tv/broadcast-lab-11
Boiler Room
Musicians
Connecting club culture to the world, on screen and irl through events, broadcast and film.
About us
Boiler Room started with a webcam taped to a wall, opening a keyhole into London’s underground. Since 2010, we’ve built a unique archive spanning over 8000 performances by more than 5000 artists across 200 cities. Today, we remain true to that history. We support emerging artists. We tell stories from the fringes. We connect local dance floors to the wider world.

Before baile funk became ubiquitous in São Paulo, setting the tone in favela Street parties like Helipa, Dz7 and Marcone, and before urban raves like Mamba Negra took over the city dance floors, SP had already been the main stage of a counterculture movement powered by electronic music. Between the late 1990s and 2000, Brazil’s largest and most populated urban area witnessed the emergence of a series of groups that refueled the city’s spirit. Cybermanos, clubbers, ravers and rave invaders, “colorfuls”: there were many attempts to box and categorize these young people who often were born and raised in the ends of the city’s east and south zones. These groups played an essential role in boosting the first wave of Brazilian electronic music that took the world by storm with DJs like Marky, Patife, MauMau, Andy, Anderson S and Roxy. Almost unintentionally, throwing impromptu and DIY parties in farms, small bars or even entire streets (with the Parada da Paz and the Parada da AME mirroring Berlin Love Parade), these young people showcased the vanguard of Brazilian electronic music. They were the first generation to embrace Brazilian club music, setting trends that echoes up to today. If the words cybermanos and colorfuls, for instance, got lost over the years, the idea they represent is still alive in São Paulo’s club music. The rise of baile funk around the world and the overwhelming wave of Latin American sounds on international dance floors are a consequence of this long historical process. Those kids opened up the dance floor and the streets for today’s São Paulo ravers. Tonight, through Boiler Room x Ballantine's True Music Studios: São Paulo, we shine a light on this culture and celebrate its legacy, while also pointing to the future.
