Strategic aim two is about attracting and delivering major events, recognising that Greater Manchester is a place that truly flourishes when hosting spectators and audiences; when our distinctive welcome, passion, and expertise – combined with a casual sense of fun – results in an atmosphere unlike any other. Our visitor economy thrives on this success and will support the city-region to do more of what it does best: put on spectacular events year-round. Bolton Council’s budget for 2025-27 has been approved. Better-than-expected funding from the central government means that the council’s target for cuts, originally pegged at £8.2m, was revised down to £7.8m. The extra money from central government means the council was able to change some proposed cuts and find extra money for key services. Increases in general council tax and the Adult Social Care Precept equate to an extra £1.13 a week for Band A properties, which make up over 50% of Bolton’s total tax base.
