“The Avon New Cut is a vital corridor for wildlife going through the middle of the city. It’s the last line of defence." In her spare time, our CEO, Lizzi Testani, has been helping to transform the New Cut for a greener Bristol👏 She volunteers as Vice Chair of the Friends of the Avon New Cut, a working group that meets regularly to litter pick, weed, and generally maintain the banks of the river. “You can do so much more than you can when you’re on your own. The reason why I do this is because the goals are so tangible. You can see the change.” Photo credit: Hannah Massoudi https://buff.ly/4216eWS

With the end of 2024 in sight, we want to take a moment to reflect on the climate and nature progress this year and the inspiring, determined efforts of our members and partners. Some of our highlights of the past 12 months include: 🌱 Being part of Mission Net Zero, a £5 million initiative funded by Innovate UK and led by Bristol City Council, which seeks to address some of the key barriers to net zero; 🌱 The launch of five new community climate action plans and our cohort 1 community partners implementing their innovative demonstrator projects; 🌱 The Climate Action Programme supporting an ever-increasing number of organisations with free, practical support, with over 470 organisations having now attended our events; 🌱 A new brand, name and website for the Partnership – a positive, bold and inclusive look-and-feel to align with our values and ambition; 🌱 The launch of our new Climate & Disability programme, catalysing climate and nature leadership by Bristol’s community of Disabled people; 🌱 Supporting creative contributions from local artists including Capsule, a short film on the theme of just transition by Euella Jackson, and a poem A window on Bristol by Florence Grieve; 🌱 An inspiring and energising Partnership gathering bringing together 180+ people to take stock of Bristol’s progress, challenges and opportunities in working towards its 2030 climate goals. A big thank you to all our members. We are now a network of over 1,300 organisations united by the vision of a zero carbon, nature-rich, socially just city and region. It is amazing that so many organisations of all sizes and sectors are involved and it gives us hope - even within a year that has also brought challenges for many of us - for achieving the changes we want to see. A special thank you to our chair and directors, funders, supporting members and partners for their support, without which this work would not be possible.

The Canteen in Stokes Croft is going vegan this #Veganuary. Last year, for every 1 million people who participated in Veganuary, an estimated 103,840 tonnes of carbon were saved - that's the equivalent of 1.2 million flights from London to Paris! The Canteen aims to be industry-leading with its sustainable and regenerative practices, and so in support of Veganuary and a plant-based lifestyle, they will only serve vegan food and drink in January 2025.
