“The Avon New Cut is a vital corridor for wildlife going through the middle of the city. It’s the last line of defence." In her spare time, our CEO, Lizzi Testani, has been helping to transform the New Cut for a greener Bristol👏 She volunteers as Vice Chair of the Friends of the Avon New Cut, a working group that meets regularly to litter pick, weed, and generally maintain the banks of the river. “You can do so much more than you can when you’re on your own. The reason why I do this is because the goals are so tangible. You can see the change.” Photo credit: Hannah Massoudi https://buff.ly/4216eWS

Only 20% of Kentucky’s historic wetlands remain, and development continues to impact what we have left. The Clean Water Act has rules to help offset this loss, but they're often not enforced because wetlands are classified inconsistently. And, when these rules are applied, it's often expensive and doesn't fully restore the wetland's benefits for people or wildlife. The reintroduction of beavers has played a crucial role in restoring and preserving wetlands in England, however! 🦫 Could such a simple solution exist for Kentucky? Clean Water: A Universal Right, Not Just a Developing World Issue Access to clean water is a fundamental human right, essential for health, dignity, and prosperity. While it’s often assumed that only developing nations struggle with water scarcity, the reality is that even developed countries face significant challenges in ensuring safe and sustainable water supplies. #WaterIsLife #SustainableDevelopment #CleanWaterForAll #GlobalResponsibility

Biodiversity loss happens in increments - a decision to build here, to permit outflows there. We urgently need stronger processes that allow us to consider the escalating impact we're having on nature - the very nature that delays floods, pollinates our food and gives us air to breathe. As a small part of the answer Uchelgais Gogledd Cymru | Ambition North Wales requires all projects to deliver 10% biodiversity net gain through its pioneering business case methodology. On Thursday June 27, the TRCP was proud to help host an event in Albuquerque, NM, where Brenda Mallory, Chair of the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), announced that an additional 50+ members, including the state of New Mexico, have joined the America the Beautiful Freshwater Challenge, which sets goals to conserve and restore 8 million acres of wetlands and 100,000 stream miles by 2030. As one of the 100 inaugural members of the Freshwater Challenge, TRCP welcomes the new members and looks forward to working at the federal level to support this ambitious goal, and at the local and state-level to ensure that states, Tribes, and local governments have the resources necessary to protect and steward their waters. Streams and wetlands provide critical habitat for wildlife species and are crucial to hunters and anglers across the nation. Yet, many of these waters have lost protections and are increasingly vulnerable to severe degradation. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife estimates a 90% loss in wetlands across the nation over the next 100 years and finds that the rate of wetland loss has increased substantially in recent decades.
