Exciting times in the world of winter sports! Our CEO Elizabeth Winfield shared ‘it was a pleasure joining NGB leaders of winter sports at the UK Sport Offices in Loughborough University for the first consultation for the Performance Investment for the French Alps 2030. 2030 seems quite far off, but if successful the UK Sport investment would support the 4 year cycle leading up to the Games. British Biathlon is therefore keen in the next 14 months leading up to the Olympics and Paralympics 2026 to showcase a positive performance trajectory and route to success. We know all the Athletes have put in the hours and hard work this summer, many through our programme we were able to deliver in France this year. We now hope to see that effort and determination translate on to snow as we edge closer to selection races and international competition. #WinterSports #PerformanceInvestment #Olympics2026 #Paralympics2026

The home of Biathlon in Great Britain
About us
The home of Biathlon in Great Britain. Formed in 1996, the BBU is National Governing Body for the Olympic sport of biathlon in Great Britain. We are a not-for-profit, membership based organisation, funded through membership, the International Biathlon Union (IBU) the athletes. Our primary purpose is to promote the sport of biathlon in Great Britain in order to help the sport of Biathlon grow and have positive recognition in Great Britain; inspiring enjoyment, health and community to its participants, families and supporters. A significant part of this is providing support, training and the ability for athletes to take part in the sport at international level. Our ultimate aim is to put an athlete on an international podium. The BBU is a full member of the International Biathlon Union (IBU), the British Olympic Association (BOA), National Olympic Committee (NOC), and UK Sport. Biathlon is one of the most popular sports in Europe, pulling in over 200m viewers at every World Championship. In Germany alone, over 57.1m hours were viewed. CEO British Biathlon Elizabeth Winfield is delighted to welcome Jayne Kavanagh to the British Biathlon Board as; Director Para Biathlon. “I know Jayne will embrace the challenge of fostering growth and excellence in Para Biathlon, and her exceptional experience and passion will elevate the sport as it embeds into the International Biathlon Union Family. Together, we will navigate towards the next Paralympics while nurturing the development pathways that will shape our future champions.” Jayne was introduced to Biathlon back in 2016 by the BBU CEO when she had the most brilliant idea of creating a Para Nordic programme for Great Britain. At the time Jayne was working across the GB Elite sport system, running Front Line to Start Line, a military talent ID programme for injured service personnel. Jayne operated as the Director of Sport for the 2016 Orlando Invictus Games and had the privilege of being the Chef de Mission for the UK Team for both Toronto 2017 and Sydney 2018. Following these Games, Jayne went on to become the Head of Paralympic Programmes for GB Snowsport, leading the Paralympic Ski and Snowboard team through the Beijing Cycle, delivering some of the best ever GB Paralympic snowsport performances. She now works for the New Hospital Programme, part of the NHS, driving communication and brand strategy. Outside of work, she can often be found with her husband stopping a slightly feral toddler harassing an aging springer spaniel. Jayne is absolutely thrilled to be part of the BBU, supporting the athletes, coaches and wider board members to Milan Cortina 2026 and beyond.

Always amazing to have an opportunity to attend these camps with our young developing Athletes and Staff. It is great to unite and expose them not only to great coaching, training and facilities, but for them to feel the connection to our wonderful IBU Family 🙏
🔥 Another successful IBU Youth Development Camp in the books! 76 young athletes from 21 nations gathered in Nové Město na Moravě for a week filled with intense training, expert coaching, and great memories. 💪 Big thanks to the Organizing Committee, whose hard work brought this camp to life, and to the IOC’s Olympic Solidarity Program for their support. With guidance from top coaches like Ondřej Rybář and Ondřej Moravec, these young athletes pushed their limits and elevated their skills. 🙌 This camp reflects the IBU Academy’s commitment to nurturing future biathlon stars. 🌟 Check out the full story here: https://lnkd.in/dizdaDNR #IBU #IBUAcademy #biathlon #youthdevelopment #sportsmanship #NovéMěsto #IOC #OlympicSolidarity

We are thrilled to announce that we were shortlisted in the top three nations for the IBU Equality award! It is truly an honour to be recognised for our project 'shifting the balance' which aims to foster a positive gender balance across all levels of our organisation and in the sport of biathlon as a whole. From our boardroom to our coaching staff and down to our athletes, we have worked tirelessly to create an inclusive and empowering environment where everyone can thrive. We are grateful to the International Biathlon Union for their unwavering support, providing us with invaluable mentorship programme, excellent coaching courses, and leading the charge in advancing the equality agenda in all aspects of their work. Biathlon is a unique sport where men and women compete on the same stage, with equal prize money, and where fans come together to witness athletes give their all at the highest level of competition. We are proud to be a part of this inclusive community, and will continue our efforts to promote equality and diversity in biathlon and beyond. #Equality #Diversity #Inclusion #IBU #Biathlon #ShiftingTheBalance #ProudMoment

Board members Elizabeth Winfield @AndrewMiller and @RobertWeighill are thrilled to be in Serbia attending the International Biathlon Union Congress with our incredible International Biathlon Family! Opening the day with some great thought provoking speakers was so interesting, before honing in on the strategic plan. Having already successful delivery on Target 2026 ahead of schedule it had set the stage for an equally ambitious Target 2030 plan. The IBU committed to their strategic priorities; to empower all National Federations to narrow the competition gap, elevate our events with a modern, sustainable approach, and drive innovation for the future. Together our biathlon family will unite to support in the the delivery of #Target2030 #IBUCongress #InnovationinSport #EmpoweringFederations #SustainableEvents
