"Weight loss medicines could prove to be a key tool in getting Britain fighting fit economically." In a new article for Health Service Journal, our Chief Executive Mark Samuels explores how competing off-patent versions of weight loss medicines will bring greater capacity and choice, allowing the NHS to start treating increased numbers of patients with the broader long-term benefits that can deliver. However, these medicines should not be seen as a panacea for the obesity crisis. If used effectively, they can make a significant difference, but as an association, we believe certain safeguards must be in place. Great to see Rt Hon Rachel Reeves and Peter Kyle at Accord Healthcare's Newcastle plant to mark a £50m investment in generic medicines manufacturing in the UK. Generic medicines account for 4 in 5 NHS prescriptions or 2.4 million packs of medicines dispensed each day by pharmacies. The Government's new Life Sciences Innovative Manufacturing Fund will support UK growth, jobs and the country's medicine supply resilience.
Accord was delighted to host the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves and Department of Science, Innovation and Technology’s Secretary of State, Peter Kyle today at our plant in Fawdon, Newcastle. They met with our colleagues and President EMENA, Paul Tredwell, learning about some of the work that goes into the production of essential medicines. Their visit coincided with the launch of the new Life Sciences Innovative Manufacturing Fund (LSIMF) and the unlocking of a joint £50 million investment deal to boost the manufacture and production of Accord’s essential medicines in Fawdon. Accord is one of the UK’s largest providers of medicines to patients and is proud to supply around 10% of the volume of all medicines to the NHS. We look forward to supporting the government as ever in their efforts to boost the supply of affordable, high-quality medicines in the UK. (S) #Innovation #LifeSciences #MakeItBetter
