  • Today, the UK Prime Minister visited a burns unit in Kyiv, where British Red Cross and International Committee of the Red Cross staff have been assisting the hospital team. Working together, expert teams have been reviewing the quality of care being provided and offering solutions to challenges faced by the hospital team, aiming to improve patient outcomes and ensure high-quality treatment. Dr Steven Jeffery, quoted here, is a plastic surgeon and burns specialist who was deployed to the unit between August and October of 2024.

  • Looking to make a difference from the comfort of your own home? Our remote volunteer roles give you the chance to do exactly that! Just like Steve, one of our a dedicated volunteers. After retiring, he was looking for a way to give back and find purpose, and volunteering remotely was perfect for him. Interested in finding out more about volunteering from home? Discover our latest opportunities here: https://lnkd.in/e6waFM_g

    • Image of British Red Cross Volunteer, Steve, outside number 10 Downing Street in his British Red Cross uniform. The image also features a quote from Steve which reads: "I work remotely as a volunteer for the virtual online sales team. This is ideal for me, as I am now retired I can volunteer from home and dedicate as much or as little time as I like. I love working for the British Red Cross as it gives me a great sense of purpose and an opportunity to give something back in my retirement.

Recently I was part of a team of British Red Cross volunteers who took part in the Remembrance Parade in London, forming part of the 155-strong civilian services contingent."

Chairwoman of the British Red Cross

One of the greatest privileges in my role as Chair of the British Red Cross is hearing from and meeting our brilliant volunteers. We are only two weeks into 2025 and I have been inspired by some incredible stories already this year. Corinne Rowe has been volunteering for the British Red Cross for over 50 years. She has been one of the most called-upon emergency response volunteers in the south-east of England. I am delighted that she was recognised in His Majesty The King’s New Year Honours. Read more about it on the BBC news website - British Red Cross volunteer recognised in New Year Honours 2025 - BBC News Nathan Chambers, a British Red Cross volunteer from Northern Ireland, was also awarded a British Empire Medal. Nathan has spent decades attending callouts to people affected by flood, fire, accidents and bad weather. Irene Guild is another one of our dedicated emergency response volunteers. She has been with the British Red Cross for thirteen years and has deployed numerous times including delivering food and medicine to people unable to leave their homes during the pandemic. In December she represented the British Red Cross at a memorial service for all those who tragically lost their lives in the Lockerbie bombing 36 years ago. The service also paid tribute to the heroic response by thousands of first responders and volunteers and their tireless commitment and humanity.   The British Red Cross will always be there for people in crisis and for over 150 years our volunteers have been supporting those that need us most. Thank you for all you do Irene, Corinne and Nathan!

  • Step into our Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show garden! Our 'Here for Humanity' garden includes a unique collection of plants from around the world. They represent the ability of humanity to survive and thrive in even the most extreme conditions. The garden has been designed by six-time RHS Gold Medal winner John Warland, alongside 2024 Gold Medallist and Best in Class award winner, Tom Bannister. Thank you John and Tom for your hard work. We can't wait to see the final result in May! #RHSChelsea

  • On New Year’s Day, our emergency response volunteers in Greater Manchester helped people evacuated by flooding at Didsbury Mosque, which was used as a rest centre for almost 300 people. Our incredible volunteers, including Dani and Emmanuelle, joined forces with the mosque, local authorities and emergency services to help those affected. Together, they provided essential supplies like beds, blankets, food and emotional support to people who'd been forced to leave their homes. This collective effort showcases the power of community in times of crisis. ❤️ #EmergencyResponse

The quote from Dani reads "It was a multi-agency response with the police, fire, search and rescue, the mosque staff and volunteers, and the council. It was a very humbling experience. And the community really supported the public affected by dropping off donations and food orders so everyone was catered for."

I am delighted to announce that Carl Cowling and Mark Beddy are joining the Board of the British Red Cross. Our two new trustees bring a wealth of expertise across business and public benefit organisations and their leadership and people skills and financial stewardship will be incredibly valuable in the coming years. They are joining us at an exciting time as we help guide the execution of an ambitious strategy in 2025 focussed on helping those in crisis here in the UK and across the world.   We sadly say goodbye to Deborah El Sayed and Liz Hazell as they stand down from the Board after eight years. We have been incredibly lucky to have benefitted from their insights and guidance during their time with us and I cannot thank them enough for all they have done.  https://lnkd.in/ef8knc4N
