Today we launch the DEC #MiddleEastAppeal along with 14 other big charities. Please donate what you can ➡️ https://bit.ly/3A9iE3u 🔴 £6 could buy 12 bottles of clean drinking water for a family in Gaza 🔴 £40 could buy a highly nutritious food parcel for a family forced to flee their home in Lebanon 🔴 £155 could pay to train a health worker in Gaza

Proud to stand with every child.
About us
Save the Children exists to help every child reach their full potential. In more than 100 countries including the UK, we help children stay safe, healthy and keep learning. We lead the way on tackling big problems like pneumonia, hunger and protecting children in war, while making sure each child’s unique needs are cared for. We find new ways to reach children who need us most, no matter where they’re growing up. For a century, we’ve stood up for children and made sure their voices are heard. We wrote the treaty that sets out the rights of every child, and we’ve been upholding them every day since. We know we can’t do this alone. Together with children, supporters and partners, we work to help every child become who they want to be.

At this year’s #COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, we followed young climate activists from Malawi, South Sudan and Somalia. They told us the impact climate change is having on their lives and how extreme weather is pushing many children in their area out of school. We’re calling on the UK to show leadership in pushing for an ambitious and fair finance agreement that meets the needs of children and young people in lower-income countries. #ClimateCrisis

Last week a group of our partners, alongside representatives from our Corporate Advisory Board and Women’s Network were in Kenya witnessing firsthand the incredible resilience of local communities in the face of climate change. In Kenya, we’re working to empower young people who are on the frontline of the climate crisis, crafting solutions for the future 💚 From youth activists who are leading the charge on environmental activism through grassroots initiatives and social media campaigns, to young entrepreneurs who, through training and seed funding, are now successfully running their own businesses, there were so many inspiring stories. Through our partnerships, innovation, and shared expertise we’ll continue to work together to build climate resilience that is both sustainable and culturally relevant, to create lasting change for children everywhere. This autumn, we’re collaborating with the UK Government’s Child Poverty Taskforce, led by Liz Kendall and Bridget Phillipson, to host 19 listening sessions with people who have lived experience of poverty and community workers. These sessions aim to provide government officials with insights to improve public services for children in poverty and support families facing financial hardship. The consultations, held across England with partners like Praxis and Disability Rights UK, will inform the UK Government’s Child Poverty Strategy, set to be published in Spring 2025, with measurable targets to tackle child poverty. Priya Edwards, Senior Policy Advisor at Save the Children UK said: “We are really pleased to be working with the UK Government to facilitate the Child Poverty Taskforce hearing directly from children, their families, and our partners in communities across the UK...We know - from this work, previous engagement with families, and the Government's own statistics, that the two-child limit is a key factor keeping families in poverty. We will continue to advocate for the policy to be scrapped.” #ChildPoverty #PublicServices #GovernmentStrategy #SocialImpact #OpportunityForAll #FamilySupport #UKCharity #PovertyReduction #ListeningExercises #ChildPovertyTaskforce

University friends Maya, Becca and Anika took on the enormous 60km trek from London to Brighton on 2nd November, to help raise awareness and vital funds for Save the Children's Middle East Humanitarian Appeal. Walking for almost 13 hours and taking 75,000 steps each, Maya, Anika and Becca completed their challenge and raised an incredible £3,141 👏❤️ These inspiring young women took a feeling of helplessness and turned it into action. A huge THANK YOU to all three of you. You can still donate to their JustGiving page: https://lnkd.in/ecbpzZJ5 #SaveTheChildren

We are delighted that two photographs taken by Irish photographer Dan Dennison have been shortlisted for the prestigious Portrait of Britain prize, the UK’s biggest annual photography exhibition. These portraits, captured as part of a Save the Children project, feature Cara*, the youngest of four siblings, and Nathan*, the eldest of three, whose families are affected by the two-child cap on Universal Credit, impacting their daily lives. The portraits, taken in their own environments, offer a glimpse into the reality faced by many children growing up in Britain today. Dennison explained: “We spent considerable time with each family, getting to know them and hearing about their lives. We played football, explored parks, went on bug hunts, and spent time chatting with their families while the kids did all the normal things children do—playing with toys, watching YouTube, colouring. My goal was to capture a portrait that reflects modern Britain with sensitivity and authenticity.” The two images will be featured in the Portrait of Britain Volume 7 book, which celebrates the 200 shortlisted portraits from the past year and is produced in collaboration with Bluecoat Press. Of these, 100 images are then chosen as “winning images” for a month-long digital screen display in conjunction with JCDecaux, showcasing the diverse faces of Britain across the country. Sean Ryan, director of communications at Save the Children, said: “We aim to address difficult subjects that reflect childhood in the UK in creative ways, commissioning photographers who understand the importance of sensitivity. These images are a testament to the impact that thoughtful photography can have.” The images are part of a larger campaign by Save the Children to bring attention to the two-child limit, the leading cause of child poverty in the UK today. *Names have been changed.

Lights: ON Support for children: ON! 🌟 A big, Christmassy THANK YOU to two of our longest-standing ambassadors, actor Luke Evans and musician Myleene Klass, who officially switched on Christmas at Covent Garden last night. For the second year running, people came together to celebrate and raise funds to create lasting change for children. This evening also marked the opening night of our pop-up Christmas Shop at 28 Henrietta Street. "As we celebrate this wonderful time of year, it’s important to remember that there are children here in the UK and across the world facing devastating realities such as hunger and conflict." – Myleene "I feel honoured to be part of the Christmas light switch-on in aid of Save the Children, as this year, more than ever, children need our support. Even the smallest donation will help Save the Children to continue its work to ensure children across the world stay safe, healthy and learning." – Luke #CoventGardenChristmas
