Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, we stand together to say #NoExcuse for gender-based violence. In Adré, Chad, Yasmine volunteers with the Red Cross of Chad to support survivors in a refugee camp on the Sudan border. She has been specially trained to respond to instances of gender-based violence (GBV), providing psychological support and helping to run protection services. Yasmine finds her work emotionally challenging, particularly as she can relate to so many of the women they meet. Despite this, she says there is nothing more wonderful than supporting people in need. As we begin the 16 Days Of Activism, let’s highlight voices like Yasmine’s and commit to ending violence against women. #16Days

Today we published a new report, ‘Seen and heard: Understanding frequent attendance at A&E’. We did this research with NHS Dorset to understand what's causing some people in Dorset to attend A&E frequently, and to work out how to get them the right support before they reach a crisis point. The report also includes recommendations for care systems and partners like NHS England and Department of Health and Social Care. By giving patients support in the community, offering more services for people who need to access healthcare regularly, and addressing the causes of health inequalities, there will be less pressure on emergency care and we can have a real impact on people’s lives. Over the weekend, some of our wonderful volunteers were selected to represent the British Red Cross at the #RemembranceSunday commemorations in London. The team in attendance across the weekend was made up of volunteers who carry out vital work in areas such as Emergency Response, Crisis Hubs & Support Lines, fundraising, community engagement, and so much more. As a member of the Civilian Services Contingent (CSC), we are one of the organisations to form part of the static guard of honour around the Cenotaph, and several volunteers also took part in the Cenotaph March Past and the Festival of Remembrance. Thank you to everyone who was involved and, as always, a huge thank you to all of our incredible British Red Cross volunteers. ❤️

British Red Cross reposted this
It is a year since I had the privilege of joining the British Red Cross as chief executive. It is a role like no other, at an organisation like no other. For over 150 years, we’ve been there for people when a crisis strikes. I have witnessed this time and time again over the past twelve months, and I am constantly inspired by what I’ve seen. On visits to all four UK nations, I’ve popped into our shops and seen our incredible services in action. I’ve spent time with the dedicated staff and volunteers that deliver our health, crisis response, and refugee support and restoring family links services. Earlier this year I was privileged to witness the heartwarming moment that a young boy was reunited with his family. It really demonstrated to me the real, positive difference our people make to the lives of others. Around the world, climate emergencies, conflict and displacement hit the most vulnerable the hardest. I spent time in country with colleagues from the Red Cross of Chad, Magen David Adom in Israel, the Palestine Red Crescent Society, and the Ukrainian Red Cross. I saw first-hand the power of our global network, led by local action from those staff and volunteers that are at the heart of the very communities they serve. They provide a lifeline to millions of people every year. One thing I will take with me into the next twelve months, is that it is people that make the British Red Cross special – every volunteer who gives their time, every generous supporter and every staff member working on the ground and behind the scenes. With every new challenge that comes our way, our people never stop showing the values and fundamental principles that we were founded on and that continue to guide us. Whether at home or overseas, the British Red Cross is here to help people in crisis, no matter who they are or where they are. My priority for the year ahead is to make it as easy as possible for our people to continue to do that.

Did you know, Over 90,000 people volunteered for the British Red Cross during the First World War? Today, on Remembrance Day, we’re paying tribute to them. They played a key role, carrying out life-saving work both in the UK and overseas. From caring for wounded soldiers in Red Cross hospitals, to making food parcels for prisoners of war, they were a lifeline for so many. And this vital work continues to this day. Then and now, we couldn’t do what we do without the incredible dedication of our volunteers. Thank you. ❤️ Interested in finding out if your family members were Red Cross volunteers during the First World War? Search our records at: https://lnkd.in/ecgJrNzK #RemembranceDay

On Remembrance Sunday, we’re sharing this rare footage from over 100 years ago, showing Red Cross nurses playing football with wounded soldiers! These voluntary nurses worked tirelessly but, as you can see, they still managed to find positivity in such dangerous and terrifying times. 🌹 #RemembranceDay #RemembranceSunday
