Join us for an evening with multi-award-winning Jamaican poet Jason Allen-Paisant in conversation with Jacqueline Crooks, author of Fire Rush. The Possibility of Tenderness is Allen-Paisant’s first non-fiction work – a fierce reclamation of a link with the land, roaming from Jamaican hills to the woodlands of Leeds. The event will include an audience Q&A; early copies of The Possibility of Tenderness will be available to purchase and a book signing with Jason: https://lnkd.in/dj7n9y33 Image: Clara Molden

A modern theatre in the heart of Brixton, opening 2021. (Formerly Ovalhouse.)
About us
Last year Brixton House (formerly Ovalhouse) relocated to a new home in Brixton, as part of the Somerleyton Road development. Opening in early 2022, the new fully accessible theatre will house studio performance spaces, a café and bar and outdoor public spaces in the heart of the community.

Congratulations Corey! We can't wait to hear the adaptation for BBC Radio 4 - mark your calendars 🎉
I'm excited to share some news!! My play Chicken Burger N Chips, which had one successful run at The Brockley Jack Theatre and two successful runs at Brixton House, has been adapted for BBC Radio 4 and will air on Thursday, 6th February at 2:15 pm. I started writing this play in 2017 and I've been on an incredible journey with it ever since. I want to thank everyone who read my drafts, saw the R&D workshops, collaborated with me, and saw every play version. Thank You!!

It has been an eventful and rewarding year for us at Brixton House, and we thought we would take a moment to reflect and thank all of the artists and collaborators we have worked with in 2024. Here are a few of our highlights: As part of LIFT (London International Festival of Theatre) 2024, we collaborated with Clean Break Theatre Company to present an incredible new theatrical experience, ‘The Trials and Passions of Unfamous Women’ by Brazilian theatre makers Janaina Leite and Laura Duarte. 2024 was the third year of Housemates Festival, where our artists took over the building for three weeks with eight cross-arts shows and two readings. We also had two Housemates Festival 2023 shows return for a run at Brixton House, including dk.fash’s ‘Is Dat U Yh?’ and Tobi King Bakare’s ‘Before I Go’, as well as welcoming back Daniel Ward’s ‘Everything I Own’ as part of our celebration of the Windrush Generation’s legacy. We had a big transition as our longtime collaborator Stockwell Good Neighbours closed. From then, we have continued their mission as Brixton House Good Neighbours, serving our elderly Caribbean community with our weekly meet-ups, workshops, theatre invites and more. Brixton House Community Choir has had an eventful year, growing in members and performing across the borough, including the Lambeth Country Show and Brixton BID’s Winter Wonder Lights celebration at The Department Store. Our multi-award-winning, five-star show ‘Alice in Wonderland’, created by Poltergeist Theatre, returned for a six-week festive run, this time including a successful adults-only special ‘Alice After Dark.’ Make sure to follow us as we announce more events soon.
