We've had a busy, and fun week, visiting and filming various projects that we've funded through our People and Place programme. As well as our visit to a Scottish Borders Council 'Walk It' class in Galashiels on Monday, we have: Travelled to various locations in East Lothian Council to see how a new Brompton Bicycle hire project will work in libraries in the area. 🚲 Visited Midlothian Council's lego dinosaur trail, which has been encouraging people to to use active travel to find all the dinosaurs. 🦖 Seen the great work Thistle Foundation is doing through Thistle Outdoors with their adaptive bike project. 🚲 It has been really inspiring to see the great work going on across our region to help people travel more actively. #ActiveTravel #SEStran #PeopleAndPlace #Walking #Wheeling #Cycling Transport Scotland Solo Films

A fantastic evening touring the Brompton Bicycle factory followed by a panel session with Brompton, RSM UK and Make UK. It's always great to catch up with the latest innovation and developments at Brompton, and everyone appreciated them for sharing behind the scenes updates and insights of such an iconic brand with our clients and other industry specialists. In a great interactive panel session we covered a broad range of topics across #Manufacturing and supply chains from #sustainability, #innovation, #digital, the macro and micro economic picture both in the UK and Internationally, investment priorities and plans for the future. As a keen cyclist, some of you may know that I am a big fan of Brompton Bicycle (I have owned three over the years) and am constantly testing the limits of these wonderful feats of British engineering, whether riding in a paceline, over great distances, or even racing at the Brompton World Championship in London (yes, that is a real thing!). Anyhow, given the amount that I ride in a given year, things do go wrong from time to time, and, on occasion, I need repairs, replacement parts, or advice - for all of which, I go to the Brompton Junction store in Covent Garden. From personal experience, the workshop team, at this store, are always super helpful and enthusiastic to assist in any which way that they can - this assistance has been needed many a time! Recently, I had an issue with one of my Bromptons (Montgomery the Second) which resulted in him needing to be sent away for replacement parts (a highly infrequent occurrence I might add!); when I collected the bike, the team had gone well above and beyond what was expected, they stripped the bike down, cleaned it, replaced other parts that were not part of the job, and the best bit, they did this all for free and without asking - they just did it. The bike is in way better condition than when I bought it (the shop I got the bike from didn't do basic checks). Special mention for Simon at the Covent Garden workshop who always goes well beyond what is required. Thank you, you and the rest of the team deserve all the credit you can get. RMI have updated their E-Bike Environment and Economics Impact Assessment Calculator. Thankyou U. Bryn Grunwald for sharing this really interesting tool. Some highlights: -E-bikes can significantly lower the number of vehicle miles traveled (VMT) -National Renewable Energy Laboratory found that ebikes have less than 1% of the op emissions of ICE vehicles -Users who bought an ebike increased cycling distance from 2.1 to 9.2km The download can be found here: https://lnkd.in/ekeuz-t6 Yes this is based on American residents & cities, however the findings can be replicated across the globe.
