Despite the permeating myths, solar energy can transform British agriculture. Solar Energy UK's stunning new film highlights how farmers can: • secure steady income while maintaining agricultural operations • have peace of mind with enhanced biodiversity and sustainable land managerment • contribute to a future of clean energy This video has come at a crucial time. National Energy System Operator and Department for Energy Security and Net Zero have released Clean Power 2030, providing recommendations on how the UK can achieve 'clean power'. The industry must all share these messaging truths to help the UK towards its decarbonisation goals. Stellar work from Chris Hewett Gemma Grimes Aodha O'Carroll and the rest of the Solar Energy UK team. Watch below ↓

We're excited to announce that our 49.9MW Knowl Green Solar Park has received planning consent! ☀️ The site in Belchamp St Paul will • deliver clean renewable energy to 12,501 homes • offset around 11,702 tonnes of CO2 emissions helping to accelerate decarbonisation in the UK. Biodiversity is at the heart of our considerations too. That's why we've also committed to providing a 179.96% increase in biodiversity net gain and 53.59% for hedgerow increase, FAR exceeding the minimum 10% target outlined by the Government. Lastly, we'll be giving back to the community by establishing a Community Benefit Fund worth up to £49,990 to ensure funds are distributed to local projects. Crucially, our Knowl Green solar park marks another step forward to helping the UK reach a 95% low carbon energy generation by 2030 - and fight climate change. This year, the Shepton Mallet The Salvation Army UK and Ireland Territory received 180 referrals for vulnerable individuals and families in the area needing food assistance. As a business with our heart in Shepton Mallet (our HQ is right here!), we've dropped off all of our donations gifted by our team to the Salvation Army. We believe that everyone should be able to have access to safe and nutritious food - no matter what.

Less than 1% of our solar modules - in fact, only 0.026% - across 5 sites found to be affected by the storms were blown off by the gusty UK winds last week during Storm Darragh - recorded at up to 96mph! And these have already been put back on or replaced. Despite the destruction that Storm Darragh caused across the nation, we had a very positive outcome with little impact on our site performance. We pride ourselves on being a reliable business and we can say with confidence that we construct our sites to top quality. It's motivating seeing the number of solar parks being built in the UK year on year, especially at a time where it's needed more than ever. Solid design, construction and procurement should be essential to all developers, to work towards greater energy security and make solar available to all. A huge round of applause for our teams who built these sites 👏

Optimism in the energy sector is more crucial than ever before. Despite doubts to meet 2035 emissions targets, 2024 has shown us that we are making great strides as an industry, including: • A new Labour Government committed to ambitious net-zero goals • A rising trend in co-locations • Wider availability of Corporate PPAs Prioritising collaboration and innovation - especially in the growing renewables space - will be key for us in taking action, expanding the industry, and reaching the targets set by the Government in a way that is fair to all. I feel positive about a decarbonised future, particularly after a great year at British Solar Renewables, which is testament to the perseverance of our team. https://lnkd.in/e3JcFSNB

In the first 20 years of solar, almost 2TW of global solar capacity was installed. In just the last 2 years, from 2022 to 2024, around 2TW of global solar capacity was installed worldwide. This key statistic was highlighted by Chris Hewett at Solar Energy UK's Members' Winter Reception, where almost 200 people from the solar and battery sector came together at the Conduit to celebrate another successful year for solar. These events remind us that we are truly on our way to transitioning to a clean and resilient energy system. We must continue to work together and push for the acceleration of a decarbonised future. It was great to represent British Solar Renewables with Natalie Lam and connect with Christy Tattershall, Liam Tattershall, Jade Tattershall, Aodha O'Carroll, and Gemma Grimes. Thanks to Solar Energy UK, Segen, Shire Leasing PLC, SOLARPORT, and UKSOL Ltd for this event.
