In our recent #BVRLABlog, Thomas Rowlands, MD Global EV Solutions at Corpay, Allstar Business Solutions’s parent company, explains how the Allstar AllCosts report reveals that the average home charging cost has fallen to the lowest level since before the cost of living crisis. There is good news for drivers using the public charging network too, where costs have also fallen. It’s not just EV drivers benefiting; petrol and diesel prices are also at their lowest levels in years. The BVRLA is the UK trade body for companies engaged in vehicle rental, leasing and fleet management.
About us
The BVRLA represents over 970 companies engaged in vehicle rental, leasing and fleet management. Our membership is responsible for a combined fleet of four million cars, vans and trucks – one-in-ten of all vehicles on UK roads. BVRLA members represent the demand-side of the automotive industry, buying around 50% of new vehicles, including over 80% of those manufactured and sold in the UK. In doing so, they support almost 500,000 jobs, add £7.6bn in tax revenues and contribute £49bn to the UK economy each year. The association works with policymakers, public sector agencies, regulators and other key stakeholders to ensure that road transport delivers environmental, social and economic benefits to everyone. BVRLA members are leading the charge to decarbonise road transport and are set to register 400,000 new battery electric cars and vans per year by 2025. Customers of BVRLA members can be reassured that the company they are dealing with adheres to the highest standards of professionalism.

While much of the attention today will be on the ZEV Mandate consultation, I want to highlight another crucial consultation which launched today. It covers regulatory flexibility for zero emission vans (https://lnkd.in/dhSDZ9Em). Regulatory change to support zero-emission vans has been a central focus of our Zero Emission Van Plan, and it’s absolutely essential to enabling the sector to make the shift to cleaner, greener fleets. 4.25t e-vans need the same treatment as 3.5t diesels. A big thank you to the BVRLA team, coalition partners (Association of Fleet Professionals (AFP), Logistics UK, The EV Café and REA), and members who have put huge efforts into the plan. We now need to ensure the proposed changes are made as soon as possible. With the Plug-in Van grant extended and the possibility of improvement in regulation, 2025 could see more momentum for the van transition. The long-awaited consultation into the terms and application of the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Mandate has now been confirmed. It welcomes input from all stakeholders and the BVRLA will be actively involved in the process to represent members. The consultation is open now, with all submissions required to be in by 18th February 2025. The association has set up workshops for early January that will give members the opportunity to share their views and guide the BVRLA’s formal submission. Full details and the areas of focus are available here: https://lnkd.in/e-EnDNYu All members are encouraged to get involved with the process and share their input with the BVRLA team. The ZEV Mandate impacts every single member and their customers. Please contact the team via policy@bvrla.co.uk to discuss further or to express an interest in joining a workshop in the New Year. #ZEVMandate #ElectricVehicles #Decarbonisation #VoiceOfTheIndustry #GovernmentEngagement

It has been a tough year for the automotive industry, which has spent billions of pounds underpinning the ZEV transition - funding huge discounts on new cars and taking a massive hit on used vehicle depreciation. This 2030 Phase Out consultation gives us a valuable opportunity to realign the mechanism of the ZEV Mandate with the realities being seen in the market today. Today’s announcement provides some festive cheer with the prospect of more certainty on hybrid vehicles, potential extra-flexibilities for OEMs struggling to hit the targets and much-needed action on charging infrastructure installation and ZEV van pain-points. The current Phase-out and ZEV Mandate targets are at major risk unless the government delivers more support and incentives to drive demand. Money is tight, but the Labour Government, which inherited these plans, is open to ideas. BVRLA will now work with its members to provide the government with a thorough perspective of where we are and what is needed. #2030phaseout #ZEVMandate

We continuously update our training materials and will shortly be launching 12 brand new e-learning modules into the SAF-approved upgrade package, providing overviews of the key lending practices and responsibilities pre and post contract. Eight new iExpress modules will also be added into the 'Essentials' package on 2 January 2025 to save members time when completing their second-year compliance training. The iExpress modules appear in the second year of members’ licences and are short refreshers on the full versions of the modules - saving learners time when demonstrating competence on key regulated topics. 1 in 4 people in England will experience a mental health problem at some point each year, according to Mind. The Christmas break and January can be an especially difficult time for people struggling with their mental health. Earlier this week our team visited Parliament to deliver over 100 handwritten Christmas cards to MPs – asking them to keep used EVs a focus for 2025. Thank you to members who supported the activity by submitting a personal message for their own local MP. Receiving messages from constituents is a powerful way to influence MPs and the association is grateful to everyone who took the time to write a message explaining the issue from their own perspective. This marked the end of a busy few months for the #happyEVafter campaign which launched at the Parliamentary Reception in September before being presented to key targets, including Ministers, at Labour Annual Conference. With our campaign partners, Auto Trader UK, NFDA | National Franchised Dealers Association and EVA England, we'll continue to work hard in 2025 to keep this increasingly key issue alive in Westminster. https://lnkd.in/dbFkJMwP
