IABSE AWARD FOR PEDESTRIAN AND CYCLE BRIDGES Winner: Bracklinn Falls Footbridge, United Kingdom Watch the short interview with David Knight, whose project, the Bracklinn Falls Footbridge, won this award. Interviewed by Hélder Sousa. Project Description: The creation of this 22m span footbridge re-established a 5km circular walking trail in the remote and popular visitor destination. The highly efficient, lightweight structure bridge boasts a resilient, low-maintenance, technical solution to withstand the harsh rural conditions that resulted in the destruction of the previous crossing. Judges Comments: Building a bridge in a remote mountainous area demands special consideration about access and assembly at the design stage. In this case, the designers are also the builders, and they conceived an elegant, lightweight solution that perfectly fits its rocky location. Designed as a flat-pack kit of parts for easy assembly, the 21-meter-long bridge has perforated web panels that appear transparent in some views and solid in others. The whole structure was launched across the ravine on temporary rails.
