Today is International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) Day. The theme for this year is "Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future." This theme recognizes the important role that persons with disabilities play in creating a more inclusive and sustainable world for all. By adopting the colour purple during this day, individuals and organisations show their commitment to promoting inclusivity and equality for disabled people. Although Autism is not a learning disability, it is estimated that about 50% of people with autism may also have a learning disability. A learning disability is a neurological condition that affects a person’s ability to process, understand, or retain information, which can make it challenging for them to learn new things or perform certain tasks. Students at Great Dunmow School raised over £100 for Children in Need this year! The fundraising effort saw students’ band together to bake and decorate a wide array of delicious cupcakes, which were then sold to the local community in a heart-warming display of teamwork and kindness. The school’s fundraising efforts were met with enthusiastic support from the community, with local residents and businesses all stopping by to buy cupcakes and show their support for Children In Need. Students at New Elizabethan School are getting social, with a new exciting enterprise project! Social Cafe is a sixth form initiative that runs at the school every Friday after lunch, offering staff and students snacks and milkshakes to purchase and enjoy. Students have also come up with a fabulous social festive promotion. This week, and up to 13th December, anyone that makes a purchase from the Social Cafe will be 1 of 3 guaranteed winners of a Christmassy gift. Students at Southlands School welcomes Pete from Commando Joe’s to run some fantastic, active gym sessions. The focus of these sessions was to develop resilience, determination and communication during a task set out within the gym. The task involved students working together to gather and arrange plastic balls to create a human chain around the hall, that went over different objects. Students collaborated and communicated really well during the activity and thoroughly enjoyed the session. Today is Universal Children's Day, and this year, we would like to introduce you to Lucy, our student at Home Tree School. Lucy’s path through education was anything but straightforward.
