🌟 Net Zero & Clean Energy Unlocking North West Economic Growth Yesterday brought the opportunity to attend the North West Future of Energy Conference at the impressive new Ebrington Hotel in Derry. This collaborative event, organised by Derry Chamber and Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce, provided valuable insights into the Region's net-zero transition journey. The conference featured enlightening presentations and panel discussions examining clean energy infrastructure deployment in the North West. Leaders from both industry: SSE Renewables, SONI, ESB, Utility Regulator NI, Vestas, Foyle Port & education: North West Regional College (NWRC) and Donegal ETB contributed their perspectives. While Jamie Delargy providing skilled moderation of the discussion. Key takeaways: ✅ The net-zero transition is generating substantial opportunities as large-scale renewables are deployed across the Region 🔄 Notable challenges include: § Planning consent timelines for major wind energy projects § Grid infrastructure completion requirements § Skills gap in the sector 💡 A distinctive Regional strength is clearly the constructive dialogue already established between regulators, industry representatives, and local stakeholders—providing a foundation for addressing these challenges. 🔌 Digital innovation is turbocharged this transition. 5G, IoT sensors and AI analytics are revolutionising how we deploy and manage renewable assets. This tech-energy fusion opens exciting doors for regional growth and innovation leadership. Through strong regional collaboration, stakeholders are accelerating solutions that unlock the North West's renewable potential. This shared vision is already delivering transformative benefits through: · Creation of sustainable, long-term employment · Regional investment opportunities, particularly in Foyle Port · Development of critical infrastructure on both sides of the border · Access to affordable, secure renewable energy These developments could provide building blocks for sustainable economic growth throughout the region. The day offered valuable insights into both progress made and the collaborative work ahead. #RenewableEnergy #NetZero #NorthWest #Sustainability #EconomicGrowth #Innovation #DigitalTransformation #5G #IoT #AI #SmartGrid The fusion of tech and renewables is creating new possibilities worldwide. How could regions leverage this convergence to fast-track regional economic growth and innovation?🚀

Interesting article from our colleague, Richard Lanyon-Hogg, posing a relevant and interesting question.
Power Stations of Knowledge: From Medieval Monks to Modern AI" In this thought-provoking piece, one of Cambium’s valued associate, Richard Lanyon-Hogg draws a fascinating parallel that will change how you view today's AI revolution. What do medieval monasteries and modern data centres have in common? More than you might think. From the sacred scriptoriums of the 4th century to today's AI language models, he traces the threads of who controls knowledge, truth, and ultimately, power. Just as monks once held the monopoly on the written word, today's tech giants and their armies of data scientists shape how we think and interact. But here's the kicker - we've been here before. As society grapples with AI's influence, Lanyon-Hogg reveals striking parallels with how the medieval world handled another revolutionary technology: writing. Richard’s blog provides a compelling exploration of power, knowledge, and who gets to shape society's truth - from parchment to processors. Read the full blog to discover: · Why medieval scriptoriums were the AWS data centres of their day · How today's data scientists mirror the role of medieval monks · What history teaches us about cognitive manipulation and truth · What these parallels tell us about AI's future impact https://lnkd.in/em6bnuNP #AI, #data, #trust,#technology

Innovate UK Catalyses Telecommunications-Enabled Decarbonisation Last week, Cambium LLP facilitated a dynamic workshop on behalf of Innovate UK, bringing together innovative businesses funded through Innovate UK's Net Zero Living Programme. These businesses are developing ideas aimed at delivering value to the telecommunications sector and supporting the UK's decarbonisation efforts. Key attendees included Nicolas Wallet and Alex Watkins from Innovate UK, alongside Richard Foggie from Innovate UK Business Connect. The session provided a forum to share perspectives on the innovation process, discuss the potential of #5G, #6G, data analytics, and #AI as enablers of faster decarbonisation across UK economic sectors, and explore the value of closer collaboration between telecommunications and IT businesses in supporting the UK's net zero journey. We were pleased to receive valuable contributions from John Okas of Real Wireless, Tom Carpenter of Mycelium Networks, Sarthak Sethi of FlexiPhone, and Mike Bonaventura from Cambium LLP. Their insights broadened our understanding of the challenges and opportunities in this crucial area. We will continue conversations with other members of the Net Zero Telco cohort, including: Integrated Systems Engineering, Murcott Energy Ltd, Novacene, Orion Technologies Ltd, and Tagntell Technology. Our aim is to understand how their innovations can support the transition to net zero and the increasing role of telecommunications in that evolution. The dialogues thus far have revealed promising opportunities for collaborative innovation between the IT and telecommunications sectors, addressing key challenges in the net zero transition. We look forward to sharing more detailed insights with Innovate UK soon. We also welcome your thoughts: How might collaborations between telecommmunications and IT innovation contribute to the UK's net zero transition? #NetZero #Telecommunications #Innovation #Sustainability
