We’re the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) and we’re taking a stand against suicide.
About us
The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is leading a movement against suicide, the single biggest killer of men aged under 45 in the UK. Free, confidential helpline 0800585858 & webchat open 5pm-12am daily. What we do... Frontline services Anyone can hit crisis point. We run a free and confidential helpline and webchat – 7 hours a day, 7 days a week for anyone who needs to talk about life’s problems. We support those bereaved by suicide, through the Support After Suicide Partnership (SASP). Communities Together we’ll help our boys, our dads, our mums, brothers, sisters, friends and colleagues. We spread our message and facilitate supportive spaces in workplaces, universities, pubs, clubs and prisons across the country – so that people feel empowered to share their experiences and get the help they need before they reach the point of crisis. Campaigns Everyone has a part to play. We campaign with media partners, brands and ambassadors to spread awareness of suicide and its devastating impact with campaigns like #Project84, #DontBottleItUp and The Best Man Project. We challenge boring male stereotypes and encourage positive behavioural change and help-seeking behaviour, using cultural touch points like art, music, sport and comedy.

Our Omaze UK partnership has raised a quite staggering - drumroll please - £3.5 million 😮💨 This money will be game-changing for us and could help safeguard our life-saving helpline for the next 2 years and save so many lives in the process. And it goes further than that - this partnership has had a massive impact beyond the money raised. It's got people talking about suicide prevention, helping to start life-saving conversations. By getting our message of hope out there, this partnership has chipped away at the stigma that prevents people from getting help when they need it. Thank you to every 👏 single 👏 person 👏 who entered the draw.
Content warning: this video contains discussion of suicide. ⚡️ANNOUNCEMENT ⚡️Here's the moment we reveal the amount raised by YOU, the Omaze Community to Campaign Against Living Miserably 💚 People affected by suicide joined us for the reveal, alongside CALM Patron Romesh Ranganathan, and CEO Simon Gunning for a truly emotional reveal. 🥹 The amount raised will ensure CALM can continue to fund their life-saving helpline, answering more calls to help people find hope and a reason to stay, keeping more families and loved ones together. 🫶 Simon from CALM said: "We knew this partnership with Omaze would be game-changing for us, but this is way beyond what we imagined. At a time when our services have never been needed more, this money will be vital in ensuring people get the support they need to end their misery, not their lives. We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who entered the Devon House Draw. 🙏 It just goes to show what happens when you do something omazing. 💛 *CALM is there for anyone struggling with life. If you need support or are worried about someone, please check CALM's website https://lnkd.in/eiktBE-V #OmazeHouseDraw #Devon #CharityReveal #CALM

Updates to the outdated Mental Health Act have been long overdue. And, in case you missed it, today the government introduced a new Mental Health Bill in an attempt to do just that. There's still a huge way to go but this is a crucial first step. With the UK's suicide rate at its highest in over 20 years, it's clear we need to do better for people in crisis. What happens after someone leaves inpatient care matters – 14% of mental health patient suicides happen within three months of discharge. That’s why treatment plans need to reflect real-life challenges and learnings from the National Inquiry into Suicide and Safety in Mental Health. Because everyone deserves more than just a safety net – they deserve fair, accessible and effective mental health treatment.

Information overload from the Autumn Budget? There's a LOT of noise and conflicting information out there right now and it can be hard to know what impact the budget will have on you. What we do know is that loads of the decisions announced in this budget will have an impact on suicide prevention, even though it wasn't specifically mentioned. There's £22.6 billion promised for the NHS - we'll be keeping a really close eye on everything, especially their plans for spending ahead of the NHS 10 year health plan (coming Spring 2025), to make sure it lives up to their promises to address the rising suicide rate. 🤝 For now, take a break from doomscrolling and head to our site if you need some practical advice or support.
