Before Ali came to Crisis, he felt nervous around people. He now creates art, has made friends and would like to go on to study art. He took part in Crisis at Christmas 2024 activities and, as part of this, also received a pair of glasses from @Specsavers. “I felt nervous around people, but I started art when I first came to Crisis. Been doing it probably for a year now. It’s helped me a lot. “I’ve received glasses from Specsavers too. It’s actually good for me, because I feel really nervous going into shops or clinics, so it’s nice for them to come into the Skylight. We’ve got a couple of emails saying, “Your eye test is due,” but I get nervous around people, so it was the best opportunity for me to get an eye test done here. All the volunteers and staff with Specsavers were really nice. I’m shortsighted and having glasses really helps with day to day.” We are so grateful to our brilliant friends at Specsavers for supporting Crisis at Christmas again last year. The team of fantastic Specsavers volunteers ran eight eyecare clinics and twelve ear care clinics across the country, delivering 63 sight tests and 91 ear health checks. It can be incredibly hard for our Christmas guests to access eye and ear care, so thank you so much to Specsavers. You’re making a huge difference. #CrisisAtChristmas
About us
Crisis is the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. We are committed to ending homelessness. Every day we see the devastating impact homelessness has on people’s lives. Every year we work side by side with thousands of homeless people, to help them rebuild their lives and leave homelessness behind for good. Through our pioneering research into the causes and consequences of homelessness and the solutions to it, we know what it will take to end it. Together with others who share our resolve, we bring our knowledge, experience and determination to campaign for the changes that will solve the homelessness crisis once and for all. We bring together a unique volunteer effort each Christmas, to bring warmth, companionship and vital services to people at one of the hardest times of the year, and offer a starting point out of homelessness. We know that homelessness is not inevitable. We know that together we can end it.

The Renters’ Rights Bill will provide transformational protections, including banning Section 21 evictions. However, with few genuinely affordable properties available, renters remain at risk. The Government must commit to investing in housing benefit, so it reflects the true costs of rents https://lnkd.in/guW-A8QV

We’re delighted to welcome three new trustees to the Crisis board – Sem Moema, Baroness JoJo Penn and Matt Sanders. Sem, JoJo and Matt all have extensive experience of working on housing issues either in local or national government and, like all our trustees, they are deeply committed to ending homelessness both for individuals and in our society as a whole. Find out more about them here: https://bit.ly/4hxfKWI Our new trustees are joining Crisis at a time when over a quarter of a million households are experiencing homelessness. Our task has never been greater, nor harder. But, with our supporters, our campaigners, our donors and our trustees, we know that together we will end homelessness.

Less than a week to see it! Our exhibition at the Senedd is open until Feb 13th (next Thursday). If you're in the Cardiff area this weekend, it's worth a visit. Home: The Key to Hope, features artwork by Crisis members exploring the real meaning of "Home" as something far beyond just shelter. Their creations have been inspiring visitors to the exhibition, especially children, to share their own ideas about the meaning of home, and now these thoughts are part of the exhibition itself.

In a word, wow. Over Christmas 2024, we were able to help over 5,500 people experiencing homelessness through our Crisis at Christmas day centres, our hotels and our Skylight centres across Britain. This is entirely thanks to our incredible supporters – to you! – so thank you. You have helped countless people to take a step towards a life beyond homelessness, and we can’t thank you enough. Just because Christmas is over though, doesn’t mean we’re taking a break. At Crisis, we work year-round to provide vital services to people experiencing homelessness every day of the year.

The numbers don't add up. Homelessness is rising, yet we’re still losing more social homes than we’re building. The Govt wants to build 1.5m homes👏 That must include funding in the spending review to cover building 90,000 social homes annually. https://lnkd.in/eSv6C3B9
