We recently spent the day celebrating John Dower, a visionary whose work helped lead to the creation of National Parks in 1949 🌱. Joined by fellow campaigners, the '49ers,' we unveiled a blue plaque in his honour and reflected on the lasting impact of his efforts. The day was filled with inspiring conversations with John Dower’s family and talks from a local farmer who shared how sustainable farming supports both nature and productivity. As we look ahead, we’re dedicated to ensuring National Parks are accessible and enjoyed by everyone—especially those underrepresented in the countryside. Let’s protect these treasured places for future generations.

🌳 Did you catch us on Countryfile at the weekend? The price of ‘affordable’ homes should be linked to average local wages, not the whims of an overheated housing market. That’s what our campaigns lead Jackie Copley told @bbccountryfile . ‘We need homes for people in normal jobs: farm workers, teachers, nurses. There’s a limit to how much an area can contribute to the local economy if people can’t afford to live there.’ Watch again 👉 https://t.co/yWzlZoAy8q

Today, we’re launching a new report with Aldersgate Group and RenewableUK on how the UK can fast-track clean energy while safeguarding nature and involve local communities every step of the way! We’re calling for: 💡 A nationwide public campaign led by the government to highlight the benefits of renewable energy. 🌳 Smarter planning that puts the environment first from the start. 🤝 Amplified community engagement to ensure local voices are heard from the start. 🏗️ Boosted resources for local planning teams. Without these updates, we risk missing our clean energy targets. Let’s make the planning system work for people, nature, and future generations. 👉 https://bit.ly/3ZaYjVh

🌳 How can we build green infrastructure without sacrificing our countryside? Last week, our CEO Roger Mortlock joined a panel of experts on BBC Radio 4’s Rare Earth to discuss the impact of recent budget measures on planning and the environment. Hear them debate the future of sustainable development in rural areas and what it means for our landscapes. 🌱 🎧 Listen back now 👉 https://lnkd.in/gFQQJcfH

🌊 This weekend, we joined thousands in central London for the #MarchForCleanWater, calling for urgent action to protect the UK’s rivers and seas. With 3.6 million hours of sewage spills reported in 2023 alone, we need stronger laws to tackle pollution and demand all industries take responsibility for reducing waste and upgrading infrastructure. Let's ensure our water is safe for everyone now and in the future. 👉 https://lnkd.in/e7NwyxXi

🏡 Are the government's housing targets going to deliver the homes we need? The proposed "Standard Method" bases targets on existing housing stock, which overlooks local needs and could lead to oversized developments in rural areas—often with homes too expensive for most people. To truly address the housing crisis, we want to see: 🌱Housing targets based on local needs and up-to-date demographics data. 🚊 Homes built near existing infrastructure like public transport. 🏠 Affordable and social housing prioritised. 🏙️ Homes built on brownfield sites before valuable countryside. It's time to plan for people, not houses. 👇 https://bit.ly/40hUheO
