At Cappagh Browne, we know that small actions can have a big impact. Recently, our engineers Oliver Ruse, Jon Lovelock, and Billy Wadsworth went above and beyond while resolving a blockage for Alfie’s Arc, a charity in Havant that provides a vital space for isolated pensioners and those in need. The heartfelt feedback from the charity says it all: "We can't say enough how amazing your guys and Southern Water are. We run a charity, and without what you lot have done, we couldn't help our community. We do craft clubs for pensioners in isolation, and they would have had nowhere to go. We’re disabled, so we couldn’t move the stuff out of the way to get to the drains, but they said, 'No problem, get out the way, we got this!' and tackled the job with smiles and jokes. I swear they went above and beyond when they didn’t need to. It really brought tears to our eyes. These guys don’t get enough recognition, and we are so proud and happy to have you guys." A huge thank you to Oliver, Jon, and Billy for their incredible work. Your dedication and kindness make a real difference! #CommunityFirst #AboveAndBeyond #ProudOfOurTeam #CappaghBrowne

For all of us in the water industry, delivering essential services is at the heart of what we do, but it's the compassion and care of our team members that make a real difference. On a cold Friday night in January while attending a site in Ramsgate, CBUL Crew Member Brandon Strotten noticed a member of the public who looked as though he had been out in the cold all night, dressed only in a thin tracksuit sat on the pavement outside a local hostel. Concerned for his welfare, Brandon approached the man to check if he was okay. Upon learning that he had nowhere to go and that the hostel wouldn’t open until Monday, Brandon didn’t hesitate—he took the initiative to escort him to the Salvation Army, ensuring he had a warm place to stay for the weekend. This act of kindness goes far beyond the job description and speaks volumes about the values we hold as a company. A huge thank you to Brandon for demonstrating such empathy and community spirit. Your actions made a real difference that day, and we couldn’t be prouder to have you on our team. #CappaghBrowne #Teamwork #Community #MakingADifference #AboveAndBeyond

At Cappagh Browne we’re always looking for ways to balance the demands of infrastructure maintenance with environmental responsibility. Our recent project in Hastings exemplifies this as we sought to reinforce a manhole chamber while protecting the sensitive river habitat within a nature reserve. Traditionally, preparing concrete bagwork offsite is a time-consuming process with environmental challenges. Instead, we used SoluForm’s concrete-filled bagwork, a more sustainable and efficient alternative. Unlike conventional methods, Soluform eliminates the need for temporary works and specialist equipment in most cases, reducing costs and environmental impact. Its biodegradable liners ensure minimal waste, while its ease of use allows for quick, adaptable installation with minimal impact to the river ecosystem. This project showcases how innovative solutions can meet infrastructure demands while prioritising environmental protection. At Cappagh Browne, we are proud to champion environmental initiatives that create meaningful impact on our local ecosystems. Joining forces with Sussex Wildlife Trust for a tree planting volunteering day provided our team with a hands-on opportunity to contribute to a project dedicated to habitat enhancement and sustainability. Set against the backdrop of a crisp and sunny December day, this initiative aimed to connect fragmented woodlands, create thriving wildflower meadows, and support natural flood management. Together, we planted a diverse range of trees to lay the foundation for a vibrant, biodiverse landscape that will benefit wildlife and the environment for years to come. A huge thank you to the Sussex Wildlife Trust for their expert guidance and to every volunteer who made the day such a success. Together, we are planting the seeds for a brighter, greener future! #CBULVolunteers #SussexWildlifeTrust #TreePlanting #EnvironmentalSustainability #HabitatRestoration #Biodiversity #NaturalFloodManagement

It is incredibly exciting to be working with Keith and his team to help prevent storm overflow releases. Souther Waters’ vision and stewardship combined with our competence in environmental civils work is proving to be a winning combination!
Our fantastic team found a car park connected to the foul sewer. The total area was over 3500m2 contributing 35 tonnes of rainwater to the system during a 10mm rain event. No wonder the CSO spilled 92 times last year! By collaborating with Fareham Borough Council and Cappagh Browne, we were able to install this swale/soakaway system to attenuate and remove all flow. A flooding and nuisance water problem is now solved too. In total, we have removed over 1 hectare of impermeable area from this CSO catchment. We are starting to see positive results but need more storms to calibrate the overall effectiveness. Check back in a few weeks and I will share all of the numbers and post performance stats.
