How engaged are your communities on the sustainability agenda? When it comes to sport, sustainability has been steadily rising up the agenda for football clubs. Our COO Matthew Paver shares his thoughts on some interesting fan insight, commenting: "This younger generation of environmentally conscious fans will represent an increasing proportion of the fanbase over the next decade, becoming more influential with greater purchasing power. Our research shows they are already putting their money where their mouths are.” Research report: UK football fans’ relationships with their clubs’ sustainability efforts https://lnkd.in/eFiRPrqU #sustainablesport #football #sustainability #sustainabilityinsights

“There’s a lot of these sustainability silos on their own, and we’ve got to embed sustainability into organisation’s day-to-day operations, so it just becomes a normal function.” - Dominic Jordan AIEMA This time last month we gathered at Sustainable Ventures to talk about the opportunities that exist for proactive sports clubs and teams looking to drive meaningful carbon reduction. A few initiatives were referenced: - University of Oxford’s SDG Impact Lab, and Silverstone Circuit explore how to curb emissions and biodiversity impact from fans' travel - Local Rebellion Beer Co. Ltd have become the official drinks supplier to Wycombe Wanderers Football Club, heavily reducing the carbon footprint of their drinks supply - Brentford Football Club is teaming up with I came by train, supported by Trainline, to give 20 % off all train tickets for away match travel. - Surrey County Cricket Club is increasing the quantity of recycling via various means such as fans being allowed to bring empty refillable coffee cups and water bottles into the ground, which will be filled by all vendors around the Kia Oval. Whether you work in sport or not, what sustainability initiatives do you have in play? ➡️ Listen to our Impact in Focus episode on Spotify: https://lnkd.in/eXyBwmCd ➡️ Watch the event back: https://lnkd.in/eAeEVZsn ➡️ Read the transcript: https://lnkd.in/e975K3vY #sustainablesport #climateconversations #netzero

What are the next tangible actions that sports clubs are looking to take? The Founder of Football For Future, Elliot, made an interesting point on climate communication. He explains: “Football's greatest power to address climate crisis, is like nothing else on the planet. Social influence is where it really lies, and we need to see the biggest and most influential individuals and organisations in the world, many of which are in football, need to be a little bit more fearless when it comes to using their platform to talk about the realities of climate change. And be a little bit more creative with their storytelling around it as well.” We couldn’t agree more 👏 and we’re interested to see/hear/read our followers climate-related storytelling in the links.
