About us
Caredig is a non-profit social landlord. We provide housing and support to people in Swansea, Neath, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire. Caredig (formerly Family Housing) was formed in 1975 by a group of local people who recognised there was a shortage of good quality, affordable housing available in the Swansea area for people in housing need. In its early years, the Association concentrated its activities in the Swansea City area and provided rented accommodation through the refurbishment of existing, dilapidated houses in Housing Action Areas and General Improvement Areas. It has since expanded to undertake a wide range of new build and regeneration projects throughout a much wider area of operation. The Association’s activities are funded through a mixture of public and private finance. As at March 2018, the Association had 2867 homes in management with the number of homes per Local Authority distributed as follows: • Neath & Port Talbot County Borough Council • City & County of Swansea • Carmarthenshire County Council • Pembrokeshire County Council • Ceredigion County Council The Association provides a wide range of housing solutions for single people, families, older people and people who need support to maintain their tenancy. The Association has formed partnerships with a wide range of statutory and voluntary organisations to provide specialist housing and support services for: - • Homeless people • People with disabilities • Women with support needs • Young vulnerable people • Young people leaving care • People with learning disabilities • People with unsettled backgrounds • People with mental ill-health • Older people with care & and support needs

This autumn, staff and tenants from our Terminus House, supported housing scheme in Neath Port Talbot, began a partnership of volunteering with RSPCA Llys Nini Animal Centre in Penllergare. Once a month they volunteer their services, and they have been involved in helping maintain the wildlife corridor in their car park, harvesting food from their garden to feed the rabbits, and more recently helping re-pot their many Christmas trees ready for their Christmas 2025 'foster a Christmas tree event'. This partnership has grown from strength to strength with more tenants joining to volunteer for each session. They all look forward to the visits every month, with many of the tenants stating they enjoy the change of scenery, it helps with their anxiety, and it is nice to 'give back'. Thank you to Llys Nini for making us feel so welcome - we look forward to many more volunteering sessions with you.' #Community #GiveBack #Volunteer #Charity #Support #Local

🌟 Honoring Acts of Kindness in Our Community 🌟 At Caredig, we are thrilled to announce the creation of an extra special award for "Kindness in your Community" as part of our annual Neighbour of the Year Awards. Yesterday was a heartwarming day as our Community Engagement Officer Emma and Housing Officer Lucy surprised a deserving pupil at Ysgol Lon Las during a school assembly. During our join art project with Castell Group at Peniel Green Care Home, all the pupils displayed incredible kindness and thoughtfulness. Among them, Robin from Ysgol Lon Las truly shone with her acts of kindness and her special bond with resident Joan. Witnessing their heartwarming reunion today was truly touching. As we celebrated Joan's 96th Birthday, all the pupils joined in singing Happy Birthday to her, highlighting the importance of intergenerational connections. These moments remind us of the power of community and the beauty of spreading kindness. 🌈💕 #communities #awards #kindness #celebratingcommunity #intergenerationalwork #Caredig Feel free to share and spread the joy! 🌟

It's great too see residents being included in the re-design of the community around them. We have residents based in the St Helens area along with our Chinese elder scheme #SwanGardens which is a big part of the community. We are excited to see what the future of St Helens road looks like. #Community #ReGeneration
📢 As part of our ongoing work engaging the community in the re-design of St Helen’s Road, we’ve been reaching out to as much of the local community as possible. Last week, Kate McCabe and Tatiana Bodnar visited Swan Gardens retirement housing to chat with residents, alongside @caredigltd. It was a great opportunity to hear their thoughts and concerns. It’s so important to go beyond passive communications about proposed changes. 👥 We try to actively connect with every part of the community – from schools and businesses to older residents. We walk around the area, hold drop-in sessions, and listen to their views. Working with City & County of Swansea and Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru / Natural Resources Wales, we are trying to make sure that everyone’s voice is heard in shaping the future of St Helen’s Road.

Raquel is a resident at our supported housing scheme in Neath Abbey and we are proud to share that she has just celebrated her graduation! Raquel said “On the 12th of November, I received a HNC (Higher National Certificate) in international tourism and event management. It was a University of Wales Trinity Saint David course ran from Grŵp Colegau NPTC Group of Colleges. The course helps people who have been out of education return back into education and to access university. Achieving this has made me feel more confident in myself and I'm really proud. I may go on to study the HND.' Raquel has put a lot of hard work into her course prior to joining us as a resident, but we wanted to share this recognition, as we believe support of any kind and self believe can help you reach those big goals. Raquel is now considering going on to do the degree and is having conversations with staff around this and how we can support on her next journey in education. #Support #Kindness #Together #SelfBelief #Proud #keepDreamin #KeepReaching

#RemembranceDay, a day to reflect and remember those who fought and those that gave their lives for us. Today we want to share a poem written by Kevin Ashman (a colleague at Caredig and formerly served with The Royal Regiment of Wales, 3rd Bn). His beautiful and moving words capture why we must never forget! The poem has been recorded by Michael Sheen and made into a video, which captures the real essence of the words. #RemembranceSunday #LestWeForget

Caredig's Board is responsible for ensuring the organisation is well run and capable of meeting the many challenges it faces both now and in the future. Our Board regularly come together for dedicated strategy away days, this year's 2-day event focused on risk appetite and growth - two seemingly opposite dimensions that are nevertheless inextricably linked. They learned about individual risk preferences, but more importantly they focused on techniques to improve collective decision-making and put these new insights into action by exploring potential growth avenues for the organisation. In a number of fast-paced, interactive sessions they explored many different opportunities yet left the event with one clear board mandate for our teams to explore: a time-limited, impact-based impact based experiment with a focus bias on action over analysis. “Adopting this mindset has been a journey in its own right for both Board Members and the Executive Team, and I am thrilled to be able to participate in, and guide, this evolution. I cannot wait to see the results of this first targeted growth effort when we reconvene in 6 months' time. “ Kirsten Achtelstetter – Chair of the Caredig Board of Management. Proof that good governance can be exciting! Special thanks to Lara Carty of Performance Habits, our facilitator at the Away Day for expertly helping to steer the ship throughout.
