We’re delighted to announce that Sophie Davidson, Research Associate at Carter Jonas, was awarded the Society of Property Researchers’ Under 30s Research Prize at their annual dinner, which took place last week at the Royal Air Force Club. Sophie received the prize for her report titled “Rethinking the Green Belt”, in which she analysed data on the structure of the Green Belt by examining locations where growth is constrained, with the aim of understanding how greater flexibility could increase levels of sustainable development. Yesterday, Andrew Smith FRICS SIOR MBA, Partner in our industrial team, and Daniel Francis, our Head of Research, attended St Catherine’s College at the University of Cambridge, where they gave an inspiring presentation to Finance, Real Estate and Economics students about the property market drivers for 2025 and beyond. Within the presentation, they provided their top ’10 reasons for optimism’, which included insights across a number of property markets including residential, retail, office space, industrial, life sciences and infrastructure. Following an informative Q&A session, the pair then joined the university fellows and students for a networking dinner at the College. Thank you to all of the students who attended, and to Li Wan and Pete Tyler for helping to organise the event.

Last week we hosted a breakfast event at our head office in London, launching a new research paper which examines the role of sustainability in driving value in the UK office market. The research was undertaken in partnership with UCL's Business and Sustainability MSc programme, led by Samuel Tang, and examines how sustainability certifications and regulations are impacting value in the UK's commercial real estate market. Jessie Shaw, the paper's author, delivered an insightful presentation to an audience made up of investors, tenants, landlords, lenders and researchers, all whom occupy space within commercial buildings. We then took to a Q&A with our panellists, Jessie, Joseph Robertson, Christian Walters and Daniel Francis, for their expert insight and answers on thought-provoking questions from our audience. The Rural Payments Agency has removed the requirement to express interest prior to opening a Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) application. Funding is now readily available under a wide range of categories, including agroforestry, precision farming, soil management, arable, grassland, watercourse, and boundaries. SFI 2024 is a hybrid scheme and covers many of the actions previously funded under mid-tier including heritage, moorland and species recovery.   To discuss how SFI may work on your land, please click here to contact your local Carter Jonas Agri-Environment adviser: https://lnkd.in/edk7NR9M #SFI #RPA #SustainableFarming

The publication of the government's much anticipated Planning and Infrastructure Bill is imminent. Within it, a change to the law surrounding compulsory purchase orders would, theoretically, give local authorities considerable power to compulsorily acquire land at a lower cost than might be achieved on the open market. What would be the potential impact of this on the planning and development sector? Find out from Robert Smith, who heads up our national strategic land team and Paul Astbury, our Head of CPO, in our latest InSite article, here: https://lnkd.in/eMgbZjKv #UKInfrastructure #UKPlanning #PlanningNews
