This year is the 60th anniversary of the granting of the Royal Charter to the CBI, to be of service to business, to public affairs, and to the people and economy of this country. That’s 60 years of leading insights and data, of community, and of creating change by making sure what matters to business, matters to government. We’re proud to have been the voice of business for 60 years, and we’ll continue championing our members for the next 60 and beyond. This morning's Wake Up to Money panel on BBC 5 Live started with a fun twist! I was asked about my most memorable slogan, and without thinking, I said out loud, "I'd rather have a bowl of Coco Pops!" 🥣 Turns out I wasn't alone when thinking about food - many listeners texted in with chocolate ad slogans! 🍫 The panel itself was a blast! We delved into some meaty topics including: 🌍 Tariffs and the global economy under a Trump presidency ✈️ UK airport expansions and the trade-offs that might need with other government priorities 📉 Falling consumer confidence and the prospects for the UK economy It was a lively and insightful session - definitely worth a listen if you get the chance! 🎧

The dust has now settled on a busy week in Davos. It was a fantastic opportunity to champion UK business. From numerous press interviews to countless events, member meetings, dinners, and two of our own lunches, we worked hard to showcase the strength and potential of UK businesses on the global stage. 2025 is crunch time to kickstart growth – from matching skills to economic needs, accelerating to net zero, harnessing technology and innovation, and developing a modern industrial strategy. As a country and business community, we need to be bold, brave, and optimistic about our future. We were proud to have Rt Hon Rachel Reeves, Jonathan Reynolds MP, and Sarah Jones MP attend our lunch of UK business leaders in partnership with KPMG and the City of London Corporation to discuss empowering business to drive growth in the UK. We also hosted a new lunch at Financial Times House, discussing the role of innovation in addressing global challenges. Davos was a key moment for this government to set forth its ambitions for the UK on a global stage. The government should prioritise restoring business confidence at home by reducing the cost of doing business and making it easier to invest. We must have confidence in the strength of the UK economy if we are to attract investment and bolster our competitive edge in the international arena. #WorldEconomicForum #Davos2025 #UKBusiness #GlobalStage #EconomicGrowth

Shifting geopolitical sands require governments and businesses to instil economic resilience while delivering sustainable growth. That’s the agenda for our co-hosted lunch with CBI (Confederation of British Industry) Rain Newton-Smith, KPMG's Group CEO KPMG UK & Switzerland, Jonathan Holt and City of London Corporation's Chair Chris Hayward. Who best to hear from at the 2025 Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum than Government itself. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rt Hon Rachel Reeves, Secretary of State for Department of Business and Trade, the RT Hon Jonathan Reynolds MP and Minister of State for Industry, Sarah Jones MP. We delve into the challenges and opportunities for 2025, how to empower growth amid global economic headwinds and why we should be rolling out the red carpet for investors. Ending the week with optimism, galvanised to act as we head back home. #wef25 #GlobalEconomy, #BusinessConfidence #UKinvestment #addressinglobalchallenges
