🚨 Article Spotlight 🚨 In this series, we highlight key articles from past issues of Contemporary European Politics, showcasing impactful research shaping the field. 🌍 Today, we’re revisiting an article by María V. Alvarez (Volume 2, Issue 2) on the complex relationship between Mercosur and the European Union. Alvarez analyses this relationship through the lenses of neorealism, neoliberal institutionalism and constructivism, revealing how these theories shape the functions of trade, institutional building and identity in Mercosur-EU relations. While trade rules and material interests still drive much of this relationship, the shared sense of collective identity has gradually faded, making way for new geopolitical considerations.
