🚨 Article Spotlight 🚨 In this series, we highlight key articles from past issues of Contemporary European Politics, showcasing impactful research shaping the field. 🌍 Today, we’re revisiting an article by María V. Alvarez (Volume 2, Issue 2) on the complex relationship between Mercosur and the European Union. Alvarez analyses this relationship through the lenses of neorealism, neoliberal institutionalism and constructivism, revealing how these theories shape the functions of trade, institutional building and identity in Mercosur-EU relations. While trade rules and material interests still drive much of this relationship, the shared sense of collective identity has gradually faded, making way for new geopolitical considerations. What does this reveal about the future direction of Mercosur-EU relations in an era of global change? 💭 Discover more in the open-access article here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ew7cXZam #UACES #CEP #EuropeanPolitics #EU

🚨 Article Spotlight 🚨 In this series, we highlight key articles from past issues of Contemporary European Politics, showcasing impactful research shaping the field. 🌍 Today, we’re diving into an insightful piece by Benjamin Leruth (Volume 2, Issue 2), where he examines political long-termism – the choice to prioritise future outcomes over immediate gains – and its implications for European Studies. He argues that the EU is uniquely equipped to tackle gradual, creeping crises more effectively than individual member states, although support for long-termism varies across EU institutions. What role could the EU and international organisations play in fostering political long-termism, and why has this crucial research area received so little attention? 💭 Discover more in the open-access article here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/erQ97njN #UACES #CEP #EuropeanPolitics #EU
