We recognised new Member organisations, Fellows and Associates for their contributions to Further Education at the Chartered Institution's Admissions Ceremony held at Apothecaries Hall in London, last week. These organisations and professionals advance FE, technical, vocational & professional skills development and apprenticeships through continuous commitment and service, inspiring leadership, teaching & learning excellence, far reaching community engagement and exciting industry collaborations. It is a privilege to bring together fantastic FE organisations and professionals as part of the The Chartered Institution for Further Education (CIFE) and to honour the critical social, economic and cultural impact that FE generates with learners, communities and employers. We were delighted to welcome Lisa Capper MBE, CEO of Sandwell College, and Alan Pease, CEO of Suffolk New College, to receive the Charter on behalf of their colleges. We celebrated several FE colleagues who became Fellows and Associates of the The Chartered Institution for Further Education. These included Dr Rebecca Gater, CEO of Solihull College & University Centre, Andy Berry CBE, CEO of Bridgwater & Taunton College, Keith Smith, CEO of HRUC (Harrow, Richmond & Uxbridge Colleges) and Graham Razey OBE CEO of East Kent Colleges Group . Associate status was conferred on colleagues from providers including The Bedford College Group, MidKent College, College of West Anglia, Middlesbrough College, Lewisham College (NCG), Suffolk New College , New City College, Derwen College & Barnet and Southgate College CIFE was also pleased to acknowledge the achievements and the lifelong commitment to skills education & apprenticeships of John Hyde CBE, co-founder of HIT Training, who received an Honorary Fellowship. Last year I successfully completed my Level 5 Operations or Departmental Manager apprenticeship with distinction, achieving full marks in my project and EPA... and subsequently failed to announce it beyond my immediate working circle. My regret for this oversight is not in failing to brag about an achievement I'm proud of (although it is important to toot one's horn from time to time!), but because I missed an opportunity to advertise the sheer brilliance of apprenticeship schemes in the UK. As someone who struggled to absorb information in a classroom setting, who under-achieved in examinations, and found it difficult to apply theoretical learning to real-life situations - apprenticeships have been ground-breaking for me. Throughout the program, I was constantly motivated to learn new methodologies and theories for management, communication, projects and professional development, then excited (genuinely) to put the new learning into practice. This way of learning has resonated with me, and the lessons have easily embedded themselves into my working life. It's brilliant to see apprenticeships advertised increasingly further and wider, and I'm happy to say are now recognised by the Chartered Institution for Further Education! This week, I received my particularly fancy-looking Certificate for Higher Apprenticeship (CHA) and have it sitting proudly on my desk to remind me of this achievement. Association of Apprentices #PARSaward Onwards and upwards; I am now enrolled for an MBA in Senior Leadership with Arden University beginning in October, another apprenticeship I can undertake while in my role at Labcorp. As I said, this is not (just) a self-advertisement, please do take a look at apprenticeship opportunities - whether you're straight out of school, wanting to take on a new role as an apprentice, or looking to spice up your career with some professional development, it's well worth exploring. This week #apprenticeships in Britain reached a major milestone… Through an extraordinary consortium of partners we launched the Post-Apprenticeship Recognition Scheme (PARS). This initiative is a huge step forward in bringing parity between apprentices and their undergraduate peers, acknowledging the valuable skills and experiences gained through apprenticeships. PARS represents the future of professional recognition for apprentices, allowing them to receive the well-deserved acknowledgment of their hard work and achievements. The Post-Apprenticeship Recognition Scheme (PARS) is now open, and for the first time eligible applicants can access our new bursary. The £5,000 pot will support Level 2 and 3 apprentices across a range of sectors who are currently underserved with their next steps. David Gallagher FIEP, Chief Executive of NCFE: “PARS will help facilitate the recognition of apprenticeships and celebrate the learner’s achievements. The NCFE bursary is intended to enable those who wouldn’t ordinarily have the chance to take advantage of this scheme to do so, and we hope that other organisations will follow our lead and contribute to this valuable initiative.” PARS was created by the Chartered Institute for Further Education in collaboration with the Association of Apprentices. More than 100 completed apprentices have already gained professional recognition and post nominals through the Post-Apprenticeship Recognition Scheme, PARS, which is now open for applications. PARS is an award scheme that recognises individuals who complete apprenticeships in the UK. It was established this year through a collaboration between The Chartered Institution for Further Education and Association of Apprentices Successful applicants showcase the skills they have gained during their apprenticeship and their commitment to continuous development and professional standards. Recipients are awarded post-nominal designations at a range of levels . PARS significantly contributes to professional development and career growth for individuals by acknowledging the unique skills and achievements gained during their apprenticeship. The introduction of PARS also aims to support increased retention, full completion and overall achievement nationally.
