Clinical Human Factors Group
Hospitals and Health Care
The Charity working to make healthcare safer
About us
The Clinical Human Factors Group (CHFG) is an independent campaign group (registered as a charitable trust) which aims to stimulate dialogue and demonstrate through concrete action how a better understanding of the role of human factors can have a significant impact on safety, quality and productivity in healthcare. The CHFG is a broad coalition of healthcare professionals, managers and users of services who have partnered with experts in human factors from healthcare and other high-risk industries to campaign for change in the NHS. Our vision is of a healthcare system that places an understanding of human factors at the heart of improving clinical, managerial and organisational practice leading to significant improvements in safety and efficiency. Our Manifesto for change outlines how we plan to achieve this vision. The CHFG has no official remit, although increasingly we are being recognised as the point of contact for issues around human factors in healthcare and have even been recognised for our work in culture change by the current Secretary of State for Health in his maiden speech. Our goal is to accelerate the impact of human factors adoption in healthcare. The NHS and healthcare community must “do” the embedding; we will influence, stimulate, motivate, help, guide, coach, coordinate and keep the dialogue going across organisations so that we get there quicker

Announcing a New Patient Safety All Party Parliamentary Group We are pleased to announce the launch of a new All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Patient Safety. Launched this week, the APPG for Patient Safety will focus on improving patient safety across health and social care. It will work to identify and promote best practice, address barriers to progress, and advocate for policy changes to support a safer health and social care system. Chaired by Jeremy Hunt, other APPG officers are: · Rosena Allin-Khan (Vice Chair) · Anna Dixon (Vice Chair) · Sir Bernard Jenkins Three charities - Patient Safety Watch, Action against Medical Accidents (AvMA) and the Clinical Human Factors Group (CHFG) - have joined forces to serve as the APPG’s secretariat. Together, our organisations bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and insight, which will be invaluable in supporting the APPG’s mission. With this collaborative approach, we look forward to engaging a broad range of stakeholders, including patients, healthcare professionals and experts as we work towards a safer future for patients across the UK. Jeremy Hunt shared, “I am honoured to chair the APPG on Patient Safety, bringing together cross-party parliamentarians and experts to champion transparency, accountability, and best practice in health and social care and look forward to working with MPs from all parties who share the goal of reducing the devastating impacts of unsafe care.” We are looking forward to the work ahead and welcome engagement from stakeholders and the public. Further updates will follow. You can contact the secretariat team via patientsafetyAPPG@avma.org.uk
