As proud members of UHN we share in this sentiment. We work alongside clinical teams every day to ensure that all women have a safe place to turn, both in community and hospital, to receive the care they need and deserve. #NationalDayOfRemembrance
December 6th is National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. During this time, we honour the 14 young women murdered in 1989 at École Polytechnique in Montreal, simply for being women. This day calls us to act against the crisis of gender-based violence and intimate partner violence. As health care professionals, our role is critical. We are often the first, sometimes only, point of contact for women experiencing violence. Along with compassionate care for survivors, our teams provide first-line support, medical examination and treatment, and referrals to other essential services. It takes all of us to address the crisis. Let us stay committed to ensuring that women and girls thrive as members of our families, workplaces and communities.
