Today the Henry Royce Institute launched our National Materials Innovation Strategy, which represents the first phase of a massive national effort to speed up materials development cycles and unlock the UK's potential to extend its leadership in material innovation. This ensures ♻️ The UK can meet its net zero and wider sustainability commitments. 🧍🏽♀️ The protection of high-value materials jobs in a sector currently adding 4.4bn in GVA to the UK economy. ⚡️🚗 The continued growth in multiple industries across the UK touched by advanced materials. Steered by the Materials Innovation Leadership Group, the strategy consulted over 2,000 experts in materials science, engineering, innovation, policy and industry, identifying key areas for transformative impact and growth. The summary document includes a case study on work undertaken with our team here at The University of Sheffield Keen to find out more? Congratulations to Lucy Farquhar who has been recognised as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) for the teaching she completed alongside her PhD. Back in June, Lucy was also awarded the staff award for 'Peer Teaching & Mentoring' at The University of Sheffield Education Awards. https://lnkd.in/eT3qR9Fj Thank you for all your fantastic work, Lucy!
I am really thrilled to have been recognised as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) for the teaching I completed alongside my PhD. This represents a long journey from my first day in the MEE Structures lab, at the start of COVID, feeling very inept and unsure if I'd remember anything from my undergrad. To regularly leading training for other GTAs, enabling them to deliver teaching to thousands of engineering undergraduates. This isn't an award which is usually accessible to PhD students and would never have been possible without support. There are some amazing academics and staff who both enabled and encoraged me throughout those years, including Matteo Di Benedetti, Harry Day, Michael Wright and Andrew Gerrard. As well as, of course, my supervisor Russell Goodall (who I don't think knew I was teaching as much as I was, but provided a great atmosphere for me to juggle a lot of things!). What a great way to finish my final chapter at the School of Chemical, Materials and Biological Engineering at the University of Sheffield
