🌟Exciting opportunity in Medical Mycology Research! 🌟 The Medical Research Council Centre for Medical Mycology (MRC CMM) Centre for Medical Mycology (MRC CMM) is recruiting for a Postdoctoral Research Associate/Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the newly-funded MRC Programme Fungi-CARE (Combinations Against Resistance Emergence). This programme, led by Professor Elaine Bignell, brings together an alliance of three world leading centres (MRC CMM, St George's, University of London’s University Hospital and the University of Liverpool) to tackle antifungal resistance via a consortium comprised of molecular mycologists, clinicians and pharmacologists. Focusing on five key Candida pathogens, the overarching goals of this programme are to: 🔬 Rationally select and develop optimised antifungal drug regimens, including combination therapies, that are effective and suppress the emergence of clinical antifungal drug resistance. 🔬Establish pre-clinical and early clinical rationale and know-how for future phase II/ III trials of optimised antifungal therapy for candidemia. What we're looking for: For Postdoctoral Research Associates: A PhD (or near completion) in a relevant field with a strong foundation in research methods and techniques. Its great to be able to start the new year with the exciting news that the Medical Research Council Centre for Medical Mycology (MRC CMM) has announced a new call for applications for a funding scheme designed to combat the global challenge of fungal antimicrobial resistance (fAMR). The FAILSAFE project (Fungal AMR Innovations for LMICS: Solutions and Access For Everyone) is a ground-breaking initiative tackling antifungal drug resistance. The project aims to promote worldwide innovations to tackle the global health threat of fungal infections in humans, plants and animals increasingly growing resistant to available treatment. Already, the FAILSAFE project has awarded more than £1.7 million in grants to 78 researchers across 13 countries. The scheme focuses on developing innovative solutions for antifungal drug resistance, a critical global health issue disproportionately affecting low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). To deliver FAILSAFE, the UK Government’s Department of Health and Social Care Global Antimicrobial Resistance Innovation Fund (GAMRIF) programme is partnering with the University of Exeter’s Medical Research Council Centre for Medical Mycology (MRC CMM) Centre for Medical Mycology (MRC CMM). The world-leading Centre’s overarching mission is to deliver research that will substantially advance our understanding of fungal diseases, and improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of fungal diseases in the future. The threat posed by anti microbial resistance and initiatives to mitigate this is a critical pillar of global health strategy in 2025. Fungal infections play a significant role in driving #AMR and action to tackle these is urgently needed. The World Health Organization is leading an initiative to create solutions to make a difference combining better diagnostics, treatments and surveillance.
