Sometimes making a collective impact means being lost in the woods together. Sometimes making a collective impact means building a new space, a new house. Sometimes making a collective impact means exploring despite the risks. Sometimes making a collective impact means watching your facilitator, the so called 'expert' in the room, die to 𝑏𝑒𝑒𝑠 ("Well... I lead by example...") Sometimes play is the most important thing you can do together... “The creation of something new is not accomplished by the intellect but by the play instinct.” -Carl Jung (Picture shows a christmas card with a photo in the middle that is a screenshot of Lara, Abby and Andy playing a video game as three characters holding flaming torches in the dark).
Collective Impact Agency
Civic and Social Organizations
A CIC promoting learning/reflection, collaborative action and collective bravery for socially-minded organisations.
About us
Borne out of a belief that the current system is not working for the people who need it the most - a fragmented social sector, weak individual organisations, massive scale and diversity of challenges, too great a focus on 'delivering services' - the Collective Impact Agency exists to make ‘the system’ work better for real people. We believe that the best way to achieve that is to help organisations and people work together better. We build alliances, train people in our ‘anti-leadership’ methodology, and work as ‘system stewards’ to drive change at the system level through collective actions.

It may be the Christmas party to end all Christmas parties... The fellowship of the disco deer...
A tale of the weirdest, most wonderful Christmas party: Today Collective Impact Agency had our own workplace Christmas 'do'. The old 'after work drinks in person' just aren't on the table for us. We're scattered all over the country and for health reasons I can't easily travel at the moment. Andy and I both have kids; childcare doesn't stay open all night and we've got bedtime routines to do, small people to cuddle. Plus, after-work-drinks-in-person isn't necessarily everyone's 'thing'. Lara R. had a MUCH better idea. They created a world for us on Valheim, sorted out accessibility settings to limit the impact of my visual impairment, and we spent a happy few hours world-building and battling demons. Predictably, when we landed in the world I immediately started building us a house while proclaiming that we couldn't adventure if we didn't have somewhere safe to return to at the end of the day. Andrew Crosbie went off exploring, tried a bunch of stuff, made lots of discoveries. And Lara built us roads and signs, filled up storage chests with Useful Things. We naturally fell right into some form of the roles that we play in the company, which sounds incredibly trite but was hilariously true. I am not a gamer so we spent some time with Lara patiently helping me figure out how this world works and building up my capability. Then they said 'Abby how do you feel about doing something really silly and dangerous?' We summoned and battled the in-game Norse god Eikthyr, which is what can best be described as a 'disco deer' (it sparkles as it charges at you and has lightening coming out of its antlers). And we won! I was totally game (lol) for this when Lara suggested it 6 months ago even though I am terrible even at Crash Bandicoot. But I massively underestimated both how fun and how 'us' it would be. Maybe computer games aren't everyone's thing, but what is an office 'do' for if not to have fun together after working our butts off all year? And importantly (but sadly often forgotten) find a way for everyone to participate regardless of health, disability, responsibilities outside of work or capability in the Fun Thing? At the end we all died when my house got raided by a pack of demons annoyed that we had killed their god. I'm kind of hoping that doesn't prove to be as metaphorically accurate as our other interactions with Valheim (although parts of this year have felt like that). But thank you Lara R. and Andrew Crosbie, my friends. I love what we have built together both in the real and the virtual world. Onward to new adventures 💚

What is the real cost of the focus on 'keeping a stiff upper lip' for our male colleagues and leaders? We 𝑛𝑒𝑒𝑑 to talk more about this: https://lnkd.in/eMjbjp6b

"Community gives you the hope to try again." The funny thing about learning about learning (try saying that three times fast) is that the experience can be surprisingly meta - we sometimes end up learning and experiencing 𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑜𝑤𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑜𝑟𝑖𝑒𝑠 on learning. It's a mad ole world (and a beautiful one), but we hope you'll enjoy this part of the journey with us, through Andy's reflections: https://lnkd.in/emvB92JC

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for our intro to inner work for systems change webinar yesterday! It was a truly a morning with *immaculate vibes*! We will be taking some time digest everything, responding to those who have emailed us, and reaching out to everyone shortly with details from the day and future information. Until then, we hope your technology is kinder to you than it was to Abby 😉!

🫛We've just dropped a beancast! 🫛 (No, no, it's okay, we know how it sounds, but you can put the cleaning supplies away...) We've created the first in what we hope to be an ongoing series of 'mini' podcasts - short, fresh, discussions exploring our ideas in bite-sized chunks. Our first one contains the lovely Abby telling her story of hiring Lara and the surprises she encountered along the way... Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/eTgJftuW

"Learning is change." ...and, despite all the learning about learning we do, the raw vulnerability of it still takes us by surprise, often at the times we least suspect it... Here Andy's heart-led reflections capture this sense of change and growth as they happen. We hope that sharing them with you will, in turn, give you some hope for your own, messy-feeling, learning journeys (because, yes, sometimes the night *is* dark and full of terrors and you really do 'know nothing, Jon Snow') 😉. https://lnkd.in/enmMFebJ

When you put decision making into the hands of the community, wonderful things happen. When we started facilitating the Gateshead community bridge builders we had no idea where they would take things - but they have made magic (and here is once slice of that magic)! Huge congratulations to Paul and all the team of local deaf creatives that came together to make this festival happen, not long to go now! https://lnkd.in/eBTg2BQb
