About us
With over 350 CCF contingents in secondary schools all over the UK, the Combined Cadet Force offers thousands of young people a broad range of challenging, exciting, adventurous and educational activities. Our aim is to help young people develop valuable team-working and leadership skills, build their confidence and equip them with valuable life skills such as self-discipline, confidence and resilience. Each CCF is an educational partnership between the school and the Ministry of Defence, and a CCF may include Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army or Royal Air Force sections. The Cadet Expansion Programme (CEP) was launched in June 2012 by the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister with the aim to deliver 100 new cadet units in English state-funded schools. Since then the Government has committed to grow the total number of cadet units in schools across the UK to 500 by 2020, which will be supported in part by £50m of Libor funding. The goal is to significantly increase the number of young people who are able to access the cadet experience – a development that is likely to deliver significant benefits to schools and young people.

Royal Russell School CCF raised £29,000 in one day for London Poppy Day 2024 This year, 15 cadets and 4 adult volunteers gathered at the school early in the morning to begin collecting donations for the Royal British Legion. After assembling, they started collecting donations shortly thereafter and continued throughout the day, concluding in the evening. Their dedicated efforts helped the RRS CCF raise over £29,000 in support of the Legion. This was their 4th year now supporting the RBL on London Poppy Day. This year, they saw many people pass through their stall, but those that stood out were: Secretary of State for Defence Band of the Scots Guards Lance Corporal Harry Clark from The Traitors Seamus the dog Army Cadets UK | Official #CCF #CCFA #CadetsInSchools #RoyalRussell #PoppyDay2024

A real pleasure to speak to Royal Grammar School Newcastle 6th form students on the topics of resilience and the power of embracing failure. Addressing a theatre of over 150 students in such a supportive and inspiring school environment, I shared how life’s highs and lows shape us, and how setbacks can reveal our greatest strengths. Having spoken about the challenges and setbacks that started when I broke my leg when I was their age, I also highlighted the positive impact the Duke Of Edinburgh Award Scheme had on me, as I was aware so many are on their own DofE journey at present. One of my main aims with audiences this age is for them to realise they are not alone in facing life’s challenges. I hope this message stays with them as they move forward. It was also great to have the opportunity to meet some of the CCF cadets who were preparing for Remembrance this weekend. Hearing about their pride in laying wreaths and honoring those who served was a powerful reminder of resilience and respect on a larger scale. Thank you to everyone at Royal Grammar School Newcastle for the warm welcome, and a special thanks to Matthew Fisher at Scamp Speakers - Motivational & Business Speakers for helping make this event possible.
