Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now👇 The theme for this year’s Human Rights Day is Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now. This day focuses on how human rights can empower individuals and communities to forge the world we want, one that is more peaceful, equal and sustainable. UN Secretary, General António Guterres, has said ‘Human rights are the foundation for peaceful, just, and inclusive societies.’ Now, more than ever, we are facing conflicts, crises, climate issues and unjust inequalities. Peace is not merely the absence of conflict but requires daily work as individuals and communities to advocate for human rights and change the way we speak with a language of compassion and empathy. Our fundamental human needs remain applicable and irreplaceable everywhere and at all times, including during conflict and crisis. Giving Tuesday 💙 It was Giving Tuesday yesterday, an awareness date and a global generosity movement that celebrates and encourages doing good. There is a lack of empathy in the world, and we all need more compassion and connection in our lives. On their website there are numerous examples of how individuals and communities across the globe are actively using generosity for positive change, such as creative community gardens or care-mongering. But giving can also be on a smaller, everyday scale. Thinking about all the things that we like to receive such as love, gratitude, support, laughter, help etc., how can we give these to those around us – our colleagues, friends, children, parents. Small actions can make a big difference, and we may even find that the giving is reciprocated. #GivingTuesday #giving #gift #support #communication #conversation #mentalhealth #empathy #generosity #positivity #awareness #gratitude #connection

Shine A Light 🌟 This is the theme for this year's National Grief Awareness Week 2024. The Good Grief Trust aims to Shine A Light on People, Places and Projects across the UK to raise greater awareness of the bereavement services up and down the country. Every year on the final day of the campaign they light the country orange to remember those who have died and support those bereaved across the UK. They invite you to join them and simply light a candle at 6pm on the 8th December. We may find it hard to navigate our own grief as well as difficult to know how best to support someone else's - the National Grief Awareness Week website has many useful tips and information about grief, what it can look like, who to reach out to, and how to support someone who is grieving. And they remind us that 'Grief can be complicated, but access to support should never be' #griefawareness #shinealight #goodgrieftrust #grief #awareness #awarenessdates #workplace #family #personal #wellbeing #mentalhealth #support #NationalGriefAwarenessWeek #campaign

Ask us how to resolve your situation 📥 It’s really important to try to notice our judgements, assumptions and labels, especially when we’re having a conversation with somebody, as these are disconnecting, make us feel criticised or blamed, and provoke our unhelpful defence mechanisms. I was coaching somebody earlier this week who wanting help with planning a conversation with a colleague from let’s say Team A about why they hadn’t put forward suggestions of people from Team B to join their project. I asked what had happened and she said, ‘they just don’t want to include Team B in the project’. I asked how she knew that, and she replied, ‘I think they’re biased’. I questioned whether the Team A colleague had actually said that, and the answer was no. So, we dug deeper together to unpick what had happened, and the fact was Team A simply hadn’t replied to her email. So she was feeling unclear and uncertain as to whether or not they wanted to put Team B forward. With this recognition, she was more able to formulate a conversation without judgements so instead of ‘why don’t you want to include Team B?’ she was able to say ‘when you didn’t reply, I was unclear. Would you be willing to clarify if you’d like Team B involved and if so which team members? This shows us how when we push aside those judgements that we make about a person or a situation and focus instead on the observation, the facts of what happened, we can better connect to the emotions and core needs underneath our response and we can then make our requests of the other person to find a solution and meet those needs. Is there a situation at work that you need help with at the moment? We are pleased to announce that... ⬇️📢 CommPassion will be attending the UK Mediation Conference at the Congress Centre, London, on 25th November. We have been selected to talk about Psychological Safety: how it can uncover underlying conflicts that need early resolution, and how it provides skills for building mutual trust and open conversation, paving the way for more innovation, inclusion and higher performance. The conference, partnered by Acas, is designed for HR Professionals and team managers to better understand the causes of conflict in the workplace ad find out how to gain skills for effective resolutions. From the event website, “Workplace conflict costs UK employers £28.5 billion each year – an average of over £1,000 for every employee. And new research published by Acas shows that a major challenge in overcoming it is that both line management skills, and negotiation skills have declined in recent years. The evidence is clear – the sooner a workplace dispute can be resolved, the better the outcome for everybody involved. It leads to improved employee engagement, staff retention and productivity. Mediation is an effective and cost saving way of managing workplace disputes.” The conference aims to explore the conflict journey, the benefits of a less formal approach, and practical mediation skills and techniques. Why not come along to find out how early resolution can help your organisation? Not in the UK? You can also join online. It’s International Men’s Day 💙 This day is dedicated to celebrating and raising awareness of the contribution that men and boys make to their communities. It is also a part of Movember, Men’s Health Awareness Month. Our aim of sharing these awareness posts is to try to foster a connection between us and you, you and your colleagues or friends and family, us and the rest of the world. We want to encourage and establish safe spaces in our society where support is given to those who are struggling, and everyone’s voice is heard equally. Are there any men in your life who you can show your gratitude for today? A simple message to check in with how they’re doing, or a ‘thank you for...’, can go a long way in making them feel seen and valued. We can all do our bit in making today a safer space to be vulnerable, authentic and comfortable in ourselves. #awareness #awarenessdays #internationalmensday #mensday #Movember #November #workplace #commpassion #CommPassionforyou #gratitude #wellbeing #support #mentalhealth

You can also find a great tool on their website: 7 Steps to Creating Kindness in the Workplace which can be used to foster a positive and kind culture where people feel connected to one another and heard and seen for who they are and the contributions they make to the workplace. The steps are as follows: 1. Setting a Tone 2. Modelling Behaviour 3. Creating a Safe and Supportive Environment 4. Strengths, Mistakes and Growth Mindset 5. Trust, Boundaries and Belonging 6. Communication and Collaboration 7. Celebration You can read more about it and download a useful guide by clicking on the link in the comments below.
