Yesterday, we hosted our inaugural Carbon Forum, bringing together representatives from across our portfolio to explore actionable strategies for reducing emissions and driving sustainability. During the day, we delved into the challenges and opportunities that businesses face in four key stages of the carbon reporting process: ◥ 1. Data collection: Kyoko Yamafuji, senior climate analyst at Green Element, and Jessica Owrid, customer success manager, at Compare Your Footprint (part of Green Element Group), led a session on the importance of high-quality data collection. Wendy Drury from Totalmobile Ltd shared her experience, emphasising the value of embedding reporting in core business processes to drive impactful results. ◥ 2. Results and engagement: using carbon reporting to identify the biggest drivers of scope 3 emissions – such as remote work, business travel and data centres – is critical. Anne Sheedy, ESG director at Bowmark, and Gillian Mahon, Totalmobile Ltd’s chief people and places officer, shared practical tips for embedding carbon awareness across the organisation, highlighting the power of employee-led initiatives. ◥ 3. Procurement and supplier engagement: Adam Whitfield, head of compliance and ESG at Achilles Information Limited, shared his insights on fostering collaboration with suppliers for a low-carbon future. Key recommendations included aligning on shared goals, leveraging technology and utilising industry bodies to access existing supply chain data. ◥ 4. Navigating the SBTi: Bowmark’s Ben Culverwell and Cornwall Insight’s Ken McRae explained the merits of the SBTi for setting emission reduction targets, devising strategies to achieve those targets, and avoiding ‘greenwash’. We are extremely grateful to all the speakers and participants from our expert network and portfolio companies for their contributions to the event. We remain committed to supporting our portfolio companies in achieving carbon reduction targets and driving meaningful, sustainable growth.
